Goalkeeping Coup To Villa?

Goalkeeping Coup To Villa?

www.dailymail.co.uk have picked up on reports in Germany (www.bild.de) linking us with Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller on a Bosman free transfer.

The 30-year-old can join Villa in the summer.

villa_de says in the forum: "According to Jens Lehmann he is the best keeper in Germany at the moment and the statistics prove it!"

I do have to ask... what have the Romans ever done for us?

10x the player Given is? Given is one of the best ever keepers in the premier league! He might be a good keeper, perhaps as good (I don't know), but maybe 10x is a bit of an exaggeration :)

I think the fact that Given is on £90k a week and would cost us anything from £2-6m, this guy would come to us on less than half that a week and cost nothing. Adding to boot he is a better keeper. Given is good but not worth those wages and this would be the sigining MON would have made, damaging the books, *****ing off the board as they sweat trying to meet the wage demands of the rest of the EIRE team

Isn't it funny - we get fans saying wish Villa would take a bit of a gamble on a decent foreign talent, then when we do because he isn't in the class of Messi or whoever then they say - would rather have a British player who would command much more wages and a transfer fee than some one touted to be a very very good keeper. This guy MAY be better than Given so why not see what happens? If he is not that good then we haven't lost a fortune. I would welcome some decent talent for a change and not an over priced over hyped British player (not saying Given is any of those) but why waste on British when we have our own conveyor belt of yoiung talent - try for some good Foreign culture - it may surprise alot of us!

Never heard of him, so obviously I'm not aware of his abilities and capabilities. Clearly the goalkeeping position needs looking at, Brad Friedel isn't getting any younger and cant go on forever, while Brad Guzan simply isn't good enough.

an absolute quality aquisition he would be. to be fair he replaced lehmann after he went to arsenal. i am not convinced he would come to us though with dortmund running riot in the bundesliga and champs league football on his horizon for next year. if he came it would be a massive signing so fingers crossed
