More Ash Out Links - Yawn + Winger Linked IN

Bill Mills in The Mirror has a bit of a bizarre link. Remember we were always being linked with Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady when he was at Celtic? Well, the link returns as he looks to end his 'Russian nightmare` following a £12million move to Spartak Moscow. According to this report, he is a target for Villa at a 'knockdown` price.

The report makes me laugh though, it says the 24-year-old scored over 30 goals in 180 Celtic appearances. Over 30 goals? Could the reporter not find the time to look exactly at his scoring record? Shall I? Nah, not bothered!

The People are linking Ashley Young to Manchester United in a £20million January move.

The reporter, Tom Hopkinson, claims that players held a meeting behind Houllier`s back to try to sort out the problems. Behind his back or not, I would hope they did meet and talk over their woeful form. I digress, as is my want.. well, my main want is to get this article done and then get ready for my beef dinner in Stratford Upon Avon but if I don`t stop digressing this damn thing might never be finished... where were we?

Oh yes, £20million. Sorry, if the player wants out he has the power, that is the way football goes nowadays. If Sir Alex Chewalot can`t get his target in January he`ll return in the summer. The report says with Giggs getting closer to the end of his amazing Premiership spell, Fergie things Young is better than Ji-Sung Park. Is he? Park looks quality to me. How many goals does Ash score? How many corners reach a Villa player? How many goals does he set up?

Hmmm, time will tell, as said, no matter how much sabre rattling the club or fans do, the players hold all the cards and with his contract only having a year left after this season, he`s in the box seat...

Really hope Ash stays. Yes he can be frustrating but boy did we miss his bite and drive against scumpool. Hmmm, but the Man Utd link is worrying - how long is Valencia out for?

Any club will be held to ransom over Young, I doubt he would leave us in January aswell. Let him keep the armband until Petrov returns. Credit to Ash, his ankles must be sore this morning after being kicked and hacked all day yesterday. He kept getting up and grafted all day long.

I thought Ashley was mesmerizing yesterday. He is an immensely footballer who will be missed if/when he goes.

i don't want him to go but if that's what he wants i reckon he'll have the courtesy to let RL, PF and GH milk every dollar out of whoever wants him. I reckon he's got love for the villa... even if is a gunners fan.

I wouldnt want him to leave but i think that 20m is a bargain and aslong as he stays clear of spurs or city then it's all good.

reading that, looks like I want Ash sold, I don't, but what I mean is the players have the power, I'm not going to bow and scrape to beg anyone to stay at a club like this, if he did want out it would 'look' wrong though as he is meant to be our star player now. I just think for all the talk etc, he might need to step it up a bit to be a real 'top' player, corners, free kicks etc just aren't really doing it but he does get up and down the pitch and does put the work in for sure. Maybe with more quality around him and as we move (hopefully) to a more flowing, passing type of game, he'd be even more effective, the hoof ball was never really going to get the best out of him.

I'm just feeling a bit grumpy these days as to how much power the players have.

£20m for a player who has failed to show his best form for almost two years, who has just 18 months left on his contract, and who we have ready-made replacements for would be fantastic business. After the 2008/9 season, when his stock was at his highest, I'd have been disappointed to see him leave for double that. But the summer of 2009 is a long, long time ago.
