General Krulak Statement On Current Situation

General Krulak following a wave of comments and controversy over Gerard Houlliers comments and actions during and after the Liverpool game has left the following message in his thread on our forum:

1. To all Fans: I have read all of your comments regarding the L'pool game in general and the remarks made by GH in particular. I can assure you that I have passed your thoughts to Randy, the Board and to our Manager. I am unable to get into GH's mind not am I able to understand what he was feeling before, during and after the game...feelings that led him to make the comments he did. Equally, I am not going to try to minimize what he said...make excuses...or anything else. There is no denying what he said...it is there for all to see. What I don't know, as I indicated, is what was going thru his mind at the time...and neither does anyone else. What I DO KNOW is that what he put forth in his statement that was put out yesterday is far closer to the reality of how he feels. '....and I say emphatically that we will battle through.

Building a lasting success at Aston Villa is my focus and my commitment to this challenge is resolute. It is down to us collectively as a Club to work hard to bring joy and success to the fans because the fans are the most important. They are vocal and fantastic, which I stated when I first come here. They know we are in this together.' I know that his comments on Monday evening...and his actions...seem at odds to these words BUT, I have talked to him often, seen him at Bodymoor Heath, listened to him talk about the Club and what he is trying to do...and NONE of it is reflected in what happened on Monday. NOTHING can be done to retract what occurred...it is what it is. What I am saying is simply that I think I know how he feels about our Club and it is exactly what you would want him to feel. Again, I am just not in a position to talk about what GH was feeling when he walked into the Liverpool stadium...I only know what I have seen and heard as he has worked hard for our Club. We have a long way to go. Those who are seeking GH's head...who are asking that he be fired...have the right to feel that way...they pay for their tickets and can say what they want. At the same time, Randy and the Board need to keep focused on the overall goal...and we believe that GH is key to achieving that goal. His statement made it very clear that 'building lasting success at Aston Villa' is his goal...and it is our goal too!

2. Some fans have questioned Randy's heart for AVFC...that his owning the Browns impacts on the Villa. This is totally not true. Where was Randy on Monday? At the Liverpool game!! Where does he live much of the time? The UK. Randy doesn't own a home in Cleveland but does own one in B'ham! Yes, Randy owns two sports teams and is loyal to each....but NEVER question Randy's devotion to AVFC.

3. Believe me, there is not a single person at Villa Park who does not understand where we are right now and how the Fans feel. I cannot begin to tell you how much effort is being expended to get us on the right track. To think that we are just sitting back and watching all this happen is to not understand the Club. We are focused, driven, and working our bums off to get the ship back on track.

4. Carlos Cuellar: He suffered a Grade 1 tear left soleus muscle...he is now back to full training. Back to full training and absolutely ready to enter into a Premiership game is a decision made by the physio, Manager and player.

on a serious note, do we really expect the general to say anything else other than support the manager and randy. as for carlos, if he can make the bench then he can start for my money.
madforit
What an honest & true statement...It is clear that after recent results culminating in the the latest low following mondays shambles that passion is running high...Fans are rightly a little scared at the thought of relegation, but I know that come Saturday the fans will be supporting the team to those 3 points we desperately need...I really hope we can get them as it will relieve said pressure just a little, which gives us a bit of breathing space whilst we get injured players back & a chance to do some business in jan, and not forgetting a little bit of confidence back for the players...I am glad that the general has taken time to read, digest & comment on recent events & the fact that they are still very much in this & most definately do care about our club...fellow villans I ask you all just to hold your nerve for a few games longer as long term success is what we are after not short term...although as always, it will come down to results at the end of the day...lastly, as a proud serviceman, GENERAL I SALUTE YOU!!!!!
marcobavfc
Sick of hearing people just talking about what is going to happen, i just want to see results on the pitch!!
P.Avfc
Sick to death of whinging fans. Read the statements for what they are - and then support the club. Whinging and moaning will get us nowhere - except into a worse position than we are in now. I agree with P.Avfc we want results not more talk. We also want supporters supporting not looking to rip things up every time there is a loosing patch.

Well I was at Anfield the other night, frozen to the core, thoroughly ticked off over the shocking, abysmal performance and effort put in by our lads, but not in the slightest was I offended by the fact that Gerard Houllier saw fit for whatever reason or other to acknowledge the Liverpool support, yet not applaud us, the Villa contingent. Didn't concern, upset, or offend me one jot. Neither did I think it concerned my fellow traveling Villa brothers and sisters, most of who had left the stadium anyway, long before the final whistle. Get over it. Houllier made a mistake or three on the night, mistakes he now probably regrets, and committed slurs I doubt that he even meant in the slightest. We've got way too much to worry and concern ourselves about that the actions of Houllier at Anfield, it was after all, always going to be an extremely emotional night for him. Jeez, I'm not even a Houllier fan, dont want him here, never did, but my problems with him concern his management of the club I have supported for nigh on fifty years, not for the fact that he couldn't be bothered to wave to me at Anfield on a bitterly cold and thoroughly depressing winters night, when all I wanted to do was to exit the ground, reach my car, and head home to Brum. Pan him for the results and performances, not for a 'sticks and stones' failing, that in the cold light of day, features amongst the least of our worries right now.
glensider
glensider: do you not think there is a connection between the team playing badly and the suspicion that Houllier is a sentimental, if not bitter, old man who is more interested in his Liverpool legacy than he is in managing Villa ?
Pancho Villan
exactly pancho - i think their is a direct link between poor leadership and poor performances. can you imagine Sir AF thinking an interview after a 3-0 dismal defeat is the correct time to be making "an attempt at humour?" can you see Jose Mourinhio smiling after Real Madrid got thumped by Chelsea? No, never, these guys would be furious, they would be in having a sort-out with the players because they only care about winning nothing else. The team needs to be inspired by the manager, who needs to lead by example. Maybe all our players should have touched the Liverpool badge before they ran out on the pitch, perhaps we should wear their kit?
sick note
sick note: you are right. And if it were the other way round Liverpool wouldn't put up with it for one second.
Pancho Villan
mike: you are the one having a whinge at me expressing my honestly held view. Where is the conspiracy? in his own words GH said it was "an attempt at humour". Was this the right time to be making a joke. No it was not. If the manager who represents our club feels a 3-0 defeat is cause for jokes then this is poor leadership. he should only be concerned with winning, if he's not this can easily transmit to players. Can you imagine what would have happened if SAF or any other winning manager who found out one of their players had touched the Liverpool badge, they would have found themselves in deep s*** pretty fast. So how is it ok for our manager to do it? IN MY OPINION this is very poor leadership.
sick note
Mike, what are we supposed to do, accept everything the manager says and be good little fans and cheer. The bloke is a fool who apart from his humurous joke about Liverpool winning, which had me laughing all the way back to brum...not, should be sacked, he cannot motivate the team and the players do not appear to want to play for him.
madforit
'From a Liverpool Forum: Imagine if we lost 3-0 to Fulham and Roy said "I don't mind losing 3-0 to Fulham because I like Fulham." There'd be riots.' - exactly.
Pancho Villan
Thing is what will happen? I'll tell you, diddly squat! We'll hang on to Houlls until we slide further away from where we need to be and then it will be too late to look at the likes of Jol or such like. If and a big if at the moment, Houlls can turn this around he does need to think about the passion we have as fans and show that in his desire to take Villa where we need to be. If he loses the dressing room over this then we are doomed. It starts against the Boggies this weekend. UTV.

I love the General

Some of you really have nothing else in your life do you.

Perspective evades you. An attendee at the ground says he doesn't know if GH waved at them, because most had already left and those who didn't turned their back. Other Media said he waved at the Kop and then waved at the away fans. You criticise for a joke, he had just seen his team beaten by his former team he could've been irate, he chose to make a joke instead to brush it off publically - but nobody knows what he said privately.

He's lambasted for slapping the sign...was it 'I love you' or could it have been 'you ********s'.

Thank ***** non of you are on a jury because you are incapable of logical thought or reasonably doubt. You are determined to play the mock indignation and be slighted. JUDGE him on his results over a fair period of time. Not over some hyped up nonsense like this. Are you truly that childish.

GH was not, and will never be my first choice after Mr Predictable but you sound like you want to justify his death warrant issued before a ball was kicked based on his return to this club. Bitter, sentimental FFS how thick are you? We've played that badly under him before, did he have a sentimental, bitter relationship with other clubs as well?

Or is he only capable of having a non sentimental, bitter relationship with Utd, Blues and the other clubs we have ran into the ground but not scored the goals to justify our victory.

Lay off the Jeremy Kyle, it does make you a laughing stock and any valid point you may have is lost in the retarded schoolboy argument you make. In my humble opinion.

That said I've wasted my words given the 'owner' of the comment bitter and sentimental doesn't realise it's a subjective belief for a start. As you were boys lol
mike_field
First of all Mike - I rarely feel the need to make a comment on this site as I prefer to just discuss the games with my mates and use Vital Villa for news. Over a few years I have made maybe 50 posts, how many have you made? Maybe you are the one who should look at finding something else to do? Every football fan with an ounce of knowledge knows the symbolism of touching the Anfield sign, to try and suggest otherwise is deluded. Also to suggest our manager making jokes about dire performances is ok is further stretching logic. How is it ok to use a joke to 'brush off' that crap? Yes I want the manager to be irate I want him to be *****ed after a game like that (in public and private), not making jokes about it. I will take your suggestion and judge him on results in the future, not purely on this issue. But I am suggesting his leadership is very lacking, and my guess is our results will follow this. Lastly for a site that is supposed to encourage debate, I count at least four insults in your reply, so I wont be using this site again which is a shame because it is generally excellent. I am neither thick, childish nor a retarded schoolboy. All beliefs are subjective, including yours, that's why they are beliefs and not facts. The fact you fail to grasp this shows your own ignorance. I believe that Houllier's actions display weak leadership and poor understanding of how to set an example and this ultimately will translate into to poor results on the pitch - Combine this with his so far terrible tactics and we are in for a great Christmas. I trust you will enjoy your quiet evening in with the signed Jeremy Kyle box-set your nan bought for you.
sick note
Liverpool quilt and a lava lamp... HA, u guys made my day!! I find it funnier that it's a non specific lava lamp as opposed to being a Liverpool lava lamp... More of a 'generalisation' lol See what I did there?? I told y'all that Carlos was our best CB, but no one believed me.
Astonvillionaire
I can't wait to read the next Hercs in the dressing room. I'm sure his take on the whole debacle might bring a smile back to my face. Hercs? Please?
AVFC4ME
if you think he touched the sign thinking w**kers, then your the only w**ker here mike,

For a moderator Mike Field you are out of order with your comments to a member of this site. To insult him is inexcusable considering the position that you hold. You do not know if he is disabled either mentaly or physically and to call someone a retard is quite insulting to anyone who has a learning disability. I would like too see either an appology on here for those comments or for you to resign your position as a moderator.
rdunbar100
Out of order Mike Field, Fear do sumthin about this i really enjoy this site but that bloke is a joke for havin a go at sum1 expressing his opinion.
astonsteve
just about everyone needs to take a cup of calm down... We're all angry at the result and where we are on the ladder . The only thing we're guilty of is our love for the claret and blue. How about a truce and start to focus on West Brom?
Zarch
HESKEY AND BANNAN ARE BACK YYEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!
Ted 369
Astonvillionaire (great name), you're not the only one who's been touting Cuellar as our best CB. I'm not going to take the usual route down here and start slagging anyone off who disagrees with my opinion and I understand why everyone is unhappy. But I think one thing that really needs to be taken into account, especially for this weekends game, is that we will have a lot of young players in the squad who are still learning their trade in a very difficult League, fans starting the game with a negative attitude could really have a bad effect on them. As someone who has coached children for the last 5-6 years one of the thinsg I've been taught is that for every negative thing said, you need 5 positive statements to eliminate that thought from their head. Air your grievances by all means, but this Saturday, I ask all of you attending, to leave them until the end of the game. We need our players thinking success, not defeat, from the start.
Francobaresi13
The perspective, despite the rant above, is that Houllier has repeatedly gone on about Liverpool since the day he arrived at Villa, and his team are paying like they don't respect him as their leader. Personally, I believe there is a direct connection between the those two things and it is only a matter of time before Houllier goes or Villa are relegated. Just an opinion.
Pancho Villan
oh dear MIKE how the mighty fall! I get threatened with a ban for using the word idiot and idiotic, maybe now you can understand why other people rant when their backs are up, I do hope all goes well with your appeal!! NOT

some heavy *****e goin down in this thread......

FFS - GH touches the badge at Anfield and all the posts start saying " calm down, calm down", hope its not catching or we'll all be wearing shell suits by saturday!
AVbornandbred
The point is we dont want to be in the ***** come the end of the season nottinghamvillain.
astonsteve
Fair play General. However, GH is ***** and was in the away dugout for a reason on Monday night. His behavious was a joke and quite frankly you have had an absolute nightmare appointing him in the first place. Guus Hiddink or Martin Jol would have been much better to take us forward. At the moment, we are, simply *****
crosswesleyanchapel
On a serious note, everyone needs to take a chill pill, sure MF didn't mean to cause offence, whatever everyone's points of view the only reason folks sometimes get tetchy is because we're all passionate about the mighty Villa. These threads could get interesting over the next few months 'cos i think things are going to get a whole lot worse before tehy get any better.
AVbornandbred
He shouldn't of said what he said, but we all know what he meant by it. It's no excuse but doesn't change the result and he didnt conceed to saying this before the game which I would not tolerate. Onwards and upwards, get behind him and the team and let Randy ye-old faithful make the decisions behind the scenes.
leelindsay
rofl VV - thats a good one! =)
thorpyuk
No s h i t astonsteve but there have been glimpses of brilliant performances like the manure game, so i think we all need to give him time to make his mark. See who/what he can get done in January and to push on in to the new year. The league is so close at the moment, i can see we don't want to lose touch but playing manure, ARSEnal and Liverpool in quick sucession wouldn't help anyone's points tally let alone ours...
nottinghamvillain
Verbal warning for MF. Remember to debate the point not the poster, you're meant to set an example you eejit!
mike_field
After reading these posts everyone needs to chill out! We all support the same club and we are in trouble at the moment so the least we can do is be civilised to each other even if we dont or do agree lads.
P.Avfc
Mike_field needs to read "his" post and take it to heart. Your post was the most hypocritical thing I have read in a very, very long time. As stated by many before, we are all obviously mad about the results and thus causing this heated discussion, lets relax and go back to the good ole Vital Villa style of banter. This site is usually very enjoyable to read due to the guidelines put forth by the moderators. Reading well-put and though out responses is much more intresting and stimulating to read than a bunch of hyped up Villa fans screaming at each other.
All Hail MON
Mr. Fear. You do need to get rid of this Drooler MF . Not posted on here for a long time until the other day specifically because of that tit ( not that I'm important but,) I'm obviously not the only one who feels that he should make his point but not order others around as if he was Hitler!! Not the first time and won't be the last. This site was Very Very good before you started to let him have more and more control and all your excellent hard work is being undone by someone who should not be moderating anything with his overopinionated view on all things Villa even though he doesn't go to games. No doubt this will be removed by the said tit.....
Villan444
I hope Mike takes some notes from this as your views do come across very one sided. I can appreciate you must do plenty for the website but you are there to set an example just like Houllier is. You came across to me very aggressively and one sided in the summer as you didn't like the fact that I didn't want Houllier and I didn't like how the board handled the whole process. You didn't like me going against the club which is fair enough but they way you handled it was very unprofessional. Maybe if its possible you can look back at my posts from back then and now see what sense I was talking as what I was saying back then has come true. We were against him as we knew this would happen if the performances were not there. You did back down slightly after your attack but after that I decided not to bother taking up my hours of my time writing any more articles for the website. Many may not have agreed with my articles but they still took me a lot of work. If fans were to reread them now I think you could now see what I was asking for was a much wiser choice than the one the club took. The problem people have with you mike is the same problem fans have with Houllier. When people are in positions of any power there are certain things they can and can't do or say. Yes everyone if entitled to there opinion but if you are in the position of power you have to choose how and when you say things or people wont take to you or listen to your view. Once someone crosses that line there is no going back no matter what you do. Once fans respect is gone it will always be gone.
revua
I have actually just read all this. No doubt for some my losing my own temper is the event of the year. Lap it up - it proves we are all human.

Eltoro if you care to remember your choice was four letters without debate, but despite that you are still free to air your views, like everybody - nobody, not even little Hitler me, threatened to ban you for calling somebody an idiot, realism is a beautiful thing, try it.

Steve you just don't like me anyway, have at it mate.

AVB+B thank you. Appreciated mate. I broke my own rules and obviously the sites and posted in a way I've warned others about (hence why so many have jumped instantly into posting again to dig). We all lose it at points, and for a wider message maybe those taking joy in my rant given I'm such a Hitler may want to take a second a realise why their own rants didn't resort in a ban? Even a non attending, opinionated, hypocrite like me understands we are all passionate and nobody should be judged on losing it occassionally, even if they have to be told to wind it in.

Villan444 I really have upset you haven't I. I love tits, I never go to games, I'm not even a Villa fan....however like always I'm fair game. I have been since 2001 when this site in previous incarnations began. Have at me, trust me, it doesn't bother me. I would however say chap, join the forum, speak with me properly and who knows you might end up thinking I'm not as bigger dick as currently think.

Rev, if you can point to the articles maybe I can comment. I don't for second think I always agreed but I know I loved your contributions and in my own mind given the fact Houllie is not somebody I wanted either, I'd be interested in seeing my own 'aggressive' elements as you say.

I'll happy add here if anybody was truly offended by anything I said the other night, whereas I stand by my thrust, offence was not my aim. I was speaking my mind, just as everybody else does here and yes I accept I overstepped the mark in terms of becoming personal and I of all people should know better, it won't be the first time and it won't be the last. And on that score I'm no different from everybody else.

How scary 444 I'm human PMSL
mike_field
PS - anybody who I didn't answer (as well as those I did if they feel the need), PM me on the forum if you want, I'll be happy to answer.
mike_field
if you remember MIKE my choice of 4 letters was in responce to you sticking your oar in, earlier in that post I was threatened with a ban by JP for using the word idiotic! my responce was then aimed at JP, you came on and got involed, at that time I had know idea you were part of the vital villa setup, so you got the 2 fingers. anyway let me say SORRY for my responce to you and JP and start a fresh.
eltoro
no apology needed, no issue with me mate, I don't recall a ban threat for 'idiot' though, most who have been on here know I seldom ban and you have to be worse than that - OR (which lets face it isn't likely what with me being an expert and all that) if anyone disagrees with me...!!!!!!!!!!!

We all want the same thing, we all get passionate and we all sometimes go ott in responses, it is only because we care. The day we are all tame and non passionate would be the time for us to worry I guess! :O)
The Fear
oh and if you are aiming four letter words at MF, I have to say, I agree... not bothered what the words are, I'm sure they are appropriate...! :)
The Fear
i have to say, even though mike field went a bit crazy, i agree with the basic point he was making. i have read some total crap on this site about how we are all of a sudden so bad we might get relegated. sure Houllier hasn't helped himself much so far, but give him a bloody chance...please! give him a chance to see if he can get things right - with our players back from injury. there is little patience amongst a lot of football chairmen and unfortunately some of you lot mirror that.
ric112
No problems Eltoro, we'll never always agree on things we talk about it's just the nature of the beast but grudges aren't held, and since the original blowup I've probably agreed with you as often as I've disagreed. So like JF, no apology needed mate and the slate was clean the second the previous hiccup was over.

As said I'm fair game, I don't take it to heart and JF seems to have just given you permission to abuse me lol You should see what he says to me PMSL

Cheers Ric!
