Winger & Striker In?  Winger And Goalie Out?

James Nursey at The Mirror has a report saying that Brad Friedel might be out this January as Villa have decided not to give the 39-year-old a new contract.

The report says that Randy Lerner is determined to get the wage bill in line and that defender Habib Beye and possibly Stephen Ireland might also be leaving.

As reported last week, Villa have scouted Rangers keeper Allan McGregory.

Shay Given is apparently available, why go anywhere else?!

I think the wage thing is being slightly over played, Villa are no different to any other club, our wages have to be in line with the new rules.

Next up, a report in The Daily Star claims that Villa are going to bid £7m for Wigan`s winger Charles N`Zogbia. The report says N`Zogbia is 'desperate to quit Wigan`. Liverpool and Marseille are also said to have tracked the player.

Why do we need a winger? Well, an internet rumour (something that is very dangerous to put too much stock in lets be honest) is saying that Ashley Young won`t be staying with Villa. Forum thread: Click Here

John Ley at The Telegraph says that Villa are in the driving seat to sign £8million rated Spurs striker Robbie Keane who has been told he can leave in January. Harry Redknapp said:

"I have spoken with Robbie and I think he`d like to move. He wants to play. All his career, he`s played and been a big player. He could sit here and take his wages, but that`s not him. He would do a great job for anybody. Probably the hardest decision I had to make was last week: I couldn`t get him on the bench [against Liverpool]. It wasn`t easy when you respect somebody.``

Also on BBC Sport when asked where the 30-year-old might go, 'Whoever offers the biggest fee will, I suppose, be the answer in January,'

A quality striker on his day, only 30-years-old and maybe with a point to prove? My doubt comes from spending time with Spurs fans last summer at a tournament where most of them were saying his legs had gone and he wasn`t the player he once was. I`d still be intrigued to see him in a Villa shirt though!

also i'm a little sick of the keane stuff. I'm sorry but i really have to say this... of we're going to buy older players, it really should be short term or pay per game played type contracts. we need to keep our funds and buy younger players in their prime and less prone to injury.
