Ciaran Clark has dusted off a mixed weekend emotion wise, and heads back into training hoping to relive only one part of the weekends match against Blues.
Speaking on the Official Site on this crisp Monday morning, Clark rightly admitted he was delighted with his brace against Arsenal, but the overall result leaves him incapable of really celebrating his debut Villa goals.
'When you score a goal you want it to get you a good result, that wasn't the case. I didn't have time to celebrate. Despite the result, it was an amazing feeling and something I will always remember.'
Clark's two goals were literally the only highlights in the game, as our performance was pretty much woeful in the first half and whilst improved in the second, it still wasn't the standard we hoped for given we've seen how well they can play from the match against United.
You'd be hard pushed to find any player disagree with that really, and Clark certainly doesn't.
'I don't think we played as well as we should have done. We didn't set off right. We need to start games brighter, we need to start better.'
It's unfair to criticise Clark really, he's still adjusting to the midfield role and he gave us a good shot at a result with his finishing but I can't help but think 'no **** Sherlock' or describing his words as the understatement of the season so far.
There are experienced players in our current first 11 who need to take a long hard look at themselves for their performances so far this. It's not the youngsters letting us down, it's the so called Stars and Internationals who should already know a match lasts for 90 minutes and they don't earn their exhorbitant wages by simply looking decent for 20 minutes.
