Wheater In - Ireland Out? Press Transfer Talk

Wheater In - Ireland Out? Press Transfer Talk

Stewart Downing has told The Sun (amongst others) that he thinks his former Middlesbrough team mate David Wheater will be playing in the Premier League in January. Villa have been linked along with Everton and Blues. The Sun rate him at £1.5m. An article the other day had him as low as £1.2m and another at £2m! Wheater is out of contract in the summer and Boro want to recoup some money for the centre back.

'Knowing Wheats, he'll want to stay but he might have to move. The club may be forced to accept an offer because he's out of contract and there'll plenty of of interest.'

The Daily Star have an exclusive by Sami Mokbel and Dave Armitage.

According to the report Stephen Ireland wants out of Villa Park. Apparently the comments from Gerard Houllier ("He needs to work harder. The skill is one thing, but you need to compete. We know he`s a good player. I don`t want to say, 'He`s a good player ... but`.") shocked the former Manchester City midfielder. Fulham boss Mark Hughes is said to be interested having been his boss whilst at City.

No direct quotes at all from Stephen Ireland - however, Im not hearing any saying that he wants to stay!! Think the signing of Pires shows that GH doesnt fancy him! He has played in the middle as part of a 2man and 3man midfield as well as behind the front man so he has had chances accross the park. But, at the same time, the guy has barely played in 18months. I think he needs a decent run in side, but if he aint getting it with Petrov, Delph, NRC, Sidwell etc. out will he ever?? Wheater would be a good signing and WILL leave now that Boro will never go up!

I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at the moment due to him barely playing for the last 18 months. I have seen some great touches but defensively he is nonexistent and Bannan at half his height has been a far better than him. He is still incredibly young and is incredibly talented, a combination that is difficult to attract to Villa park so I really hope he comes good.

I'm beginning to believe Bannan/NRC is our strongest midfield pairing

It was obvious to a 'blind man on a galloping osse' as the saying goes that Ireland does not want to be at Villa. When the Milner transfer was going through he was holding back from signing because he thought Spurs were going to come in for him. He has had his fair share of chances to prove himself to both the manager and the fans, and he has not tried at all, you can tell by his body language on the pitch, he wants out. I dont agree with him not having played much football previous to signing, those youngsters that have come in of late have played their hearts out and put him to shame. Richard Dunne didnt have a strop when he was told he was not wanted at Man City, he showed what a professional he is and got down and worked. Ireland is an over paid spoilt brat, and I for one cant wait for him to go.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the training ground because Ireland must be a complete goose. It's the only reason why I can see GH not liking him. Yes he's out of form but all players go through that and he's just switched clubs where he wasn't playing at all. It's a tough league and you need minutes on the pitch to get in form. I think he's class and would add to us but I think he's best position is where Young is playing and he's isn't moving. If we were in Europe (where we should be) he'd rotate well with Young. Like I said unless he's a complete goose and wants out i'd like to see him stay for a while at least, he hasn't played and his heads down
