Pires Full Of Desire and Hunger

Gerard Houllier has pointed towards new signing Robert Pires' 'desire, hunger and will to win' as he welcomed him to Villa Park.

Speaking to the Official Site as Pires signed his 6 month contract, Houllier said that he was going to prove as important on the pitch as he will be helping the youngsters off it and that he sees him playing the left wing role as opposed to a more central position.

'I am pleased to take Robert on board. He is hungry, that is the main thing. He has got the desire to play, he wants to win things for us.'

Speaking of his impact on the youth, Houllie said:

'As you get older you play differently, his intelligence, experience and attitude, is a good example for the young players. They get tips from the manager, but also from players. They will be extremely eager to see what he can deliver in terms of attitude and hear his messages I would say.'

Houllier adds that with the younger players we have at the club, that he's hoping to have the right young/experienced balance in the camp and that he thinks Pires will just add to the experience of Dunne, Collins, Luke Young etc.
