'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Robert Pires Signed, Sealed & Nearly Delivered

Another brief snippet!

Robert Pires is now a Villa boy after signing on the dotted line (I assume it was dotted, I guess it might have been a solid line, what do I know?) this afternoon.

The Official Site has a picture of him holding the mighty claret and blue top.

Pires told the official site 'I`ve often admired Villa and especially the bald guy who bangs the boardings on the touchline, he`s very cool and was certainly a big part of the reason why I signed`.

Ok, he didn`t say that...

Pires, 37, has joined until the end of the season with Villa just waiting for international clearance before seeing if he is ok to play v Blackburn on Sunday.

He told AVTV: 'I can't wait to play and put on that new shirt. It is very exciting. I am very happy to join Aston Villa because it's a big club in England. I am also thrilled to have the chance of working with Gerard Houllier. I know him."

He also thanked Arsene Wenger for letting him train with the the Arsenal lads for the last two months to keep his fitness up.

'I can't wait to put that shirt on and play for Aston Villa. I am proud to play for Villa and to the fans, I'd like to say 'see you soon at Villa Park.'

Nice talk, I like that.

Bon Jour Monsieur Peres, Bienvenue a Aston Villa. Good Luck to the guy and lets give him 100% backing.

Listened to Graham Hunter on Talksport last night and he spoke very highly of Pires. He said Pires only left Villareal because the new coach wanted to go with more youth. He could have stayed on a pay-as-you-play deal, but decided to leave.
