Barry Bannan has been talking in the press about getting and taking his chance in the first team under Gerard Houllier.
Seems Bananaman thought his Villa career was all but over as previous boss Martin O`Neill had issues with Barry`s height, which, as pointed out in the forum is a bit strange because he bought Shaun Maloney (same height) from Celtic!

Anyway, in the Daily Mail BB explains:
'Last year I was on loan at Blackpool and only playing games now and again. When O'Neill left Villa, I hoped someone would come in and give me a chance and trust me and the last few weeks have been a breath of fresh air for me. Obviously, it has been a big change in fortunes for me."
He says Houllier has shown confidence in him and with every game played his belief is growing after being 'disheartened` at times under MON.
He also explains in the Mail article that our new boss wants Villa to be playing a passing game and he got his chance after impressing in training. "It's not just me. It's encouraging to see a lot of young lads coming through now. I know I'll have to work my socks off to stay in the Villa team. Hopefully, I'll be able to put together another few good displays.'
Promising noises coming out of Villa Park. Sounds perverse but this awful run of injuries might just have done Houllier a 'favour` as it has given him no choice but to play the kids (albeit the likes of Sidwell were about as options, so Houllier has shown good judgement as well!) and they`ve not let him down. Now he has had a good chance to see exactly what we have at Villa. Happy days.
