'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Villan's International Roundup

We had a couple of lads representing their countries tonight, so how did they do?

Well in the England U21 match against Germany earlier in the night, Marc Albrighton was rested by coach Stuart Pearce for some reason, but Nathan Delfouneso did get an 87 minute run out.

England lost the match 2-0 and were reduced to ten men in the second half, but as far as my interest goes Delboy wasn't exactly sparkling but he did have one good chance than he put inches wide from what I've read.

Erm that's about it for the England lads, surprised not to see Albie involved but hey ho, maybe next time.

The big news of the night was undoubtedly Barry Bannan's debut for the full Scotland team in their friendly against the Faroe Islands. I don't think I've ever watched a Scotland match in my life before unless they were playing England (before I got bored of the overpaid wasters not bothering and gave up) but I've actually stuck with this one tonight.

Bannan is a God amongst men.

He's been getting stuck in with the tackles, he's been running midfield, and the quality of his passing is sublime for such a tender age.

It was a much changed Scottish team, and ok the Faroe Islands are hardly Brazil, but young Bananaman can be more than proud of his involvement and performance tonight.

The final whistle has just gone and Scotland have come out with a 3-0 victory with Bannan playing the entire match. There is no way he can't have played his way into Levein's long term plans with that performance.

It doesn't seem to matter what the stage is, Bananaman certainly isn't afraid to open up that left peg and have a crack. Not quite his trademark 35 yard volley tonight, but he was inches from opening his account as a good 30 yarder rebounded off the post and a pin point cross from him created Scotland's third of the night.

He did have another chance where a header either side of the keeper would've gone in, but it wasn't to be, but there's no way he should be anything but proud of himself tonight.

Gerard Houllier was very positive about his call up prior to kick off when saying on the Official Site:

'Barry has skill and visions, he is only 20 and the national team has called him up. I believe in the boy.'

I doubt his performance will not have been noticed by Houllie.

Great performance by Barry Bannan by all accounts, clearly one of the stars of the Scottish victory. It has certainly been a tremendous season for the lad from Airdrie. Winning the plaudits at club level, and now earning his first full international cap. Well done that man.
