McAllister Looks Forward To Pires Arrival

The rumour from earlier today appears to be right. Robert Pires is on his way to Villa on a short term deal. (Former Arsenal Midfielder To Sign + Transfer News)

Villa`s assistant manager Gary McAllister has spoken with The Official Site saying the 37-year-old former Arsenal and Villarreal player has been in talks with Houllier today.

'I know the boss and Arsene Wenger are very friendly and I believe he's going to join us in the next two or three days. It's perfect. I am sure he will arrive at the training ground in good condition. He's a player everyone can look up to because of what he has achieved.'

I remember watching him play for the Arsenal and thinking he was one of the most gifted players I'd ever seen..........I also remember Spangles and Dooble-Bugs though...

Way too old for a first team player... if he can help Bannan & Albrighton be as good as he was then i'm all for it... just hope he ain't on silly money!!!

I can't see he'll be on silly money... He's been without a club since the summer and was linked with Crawley Town recently! Surely he'd jump at the chance of football in the Prem just to show he's still got it.

I always remember watching him at Arsenal and fearing he might tear us the shreds. Alternatively, he might dive and con the referee. I hope he worries our opponents now - but cuts out the theatrics.

feckin brilliant!

No harm in giving him a go! It hasn't been that long since he was playing in the top Spanish league. Plus we're a little short of options in midfield at the moment!

GH signed McAllister at the age of 36 for the red scouse, everyone thought it was a mistake but it turned out to be a master stroke. If Pires can do the same role for us as McAllister did for them I won't be complaining

As long as he's not keeping bannan, albie out, then can only see positives --- pass on all that knowledge experience to the "kids" plus steady the midfield for 10/20 mins if needed....... (allways good to have a different option on the bench)
