Former Arsenal Midfielder To Sign + Transfer News
Good grief, I thought I`d done all the transfer talk for today: Does Ireland Need Saving? John Carew To Italy?
Apparently not as there is now loads more gossip! I do like a good old football gossip, I know most of it turns to pants but hey, it keeps us occupied doesn`t it?
Gerard Houllier has ruled out a move for Michael Owen in January.
The Guardian quote the Villa boss saying 'No, no. In terms of some strikers Emile and John will come back. There is no point.'
He does admit that he wants to sign 'one or two` players in January though. Houllier had said previously he was interested in Owen but Sir Alex Chewalot said he`d not be letting the striker go.
Houllier, though, did admit that he wants to sign 'one or two players in January'.
One that Gerard would go for by the looks of things is Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and my mate CustardCream says if we get the French international, he`ll kiss Gerard smack on the lips!
SkySports quote Houllier as saying he`d 'sign him tomorrow' if available.
Apparently he might be available on loan in January. Houllier told L'Equipe: 'If Karim wants to come and play at Aston Villa, we would sign him tomorrow. We are keen to offer him more first-team opportunities.'
A gossip site has us linked to 19-year-old Ignjovski who is currently on loan at AS Monaco. He is rated at around 6million Euro`s.
Another link says we are after former Arsenal maestro Robert Pires. lequipe say (rough google translation) that the 37-year-old will sign a month by month deal to take him to January when we might have an option to keep him until the end of the season.
Pires has been keeping fit training at his former club Arsenal.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Pires would do a good job for Villa. 'To me, before his knee injury, Pires was the best left attacking midfielder in the world,' Wenger told L'Equipe. 'With us he was just flying. Even if he has lost the speed of his youth, he can still help at Aston Villa thanks to his knowledge of the game.'
Might be good for the kids to learn off him as well?
More on Carew. His agent Per A Flod told calciomercato.com: 'I am currently in Japan and must admit it is an attractive market for John.' Maybe whilst he is under contract to Villa and being paid whilst once again injured, his agent could shut his mouth? Just a thought.
