Hogg - Debut 'Was Brilliant'

Jonathan Hogg has described making his debut against Manchester United as 'brilliant' and even better he said the fans were 'tremendous'.

Far more important than that though, Gerard Houllier has given me a new nickname to use...'Hoggy'.

Speaking on the Official Site today it was clear Hogg couldn't have been more pleased with his Premiership bow.

'It was brilliant, not many people can say they made their debut against Manchester United. I absolutely loved it.'

Speaking about the reception as he walked out, he said:

'I went out there and all the fans were singing, it was tremendous. The fans were unbelievable.'

It was a more than competent debut from the lad when you factor everything in, he hasn't let us down in appearances so far, and he certainly didn't look overawed in this game either.

The nerves that were there seemed to just keep him running, although he hasn't admitted how much sleep he got the night before.

'I was told on the training pitch. The manager read the team out and said 'Hoggy - you're in centre midfield and I want you to mark Fletcher'. I just thought 'brilliant' here is my chance to show them what I can do.'

He certainly did that, he may not have stolen the show like Bananaman or Albie but it was a very solid showing from Hoggy, and the positive signs are there.

He added he can't wait for the next match and wishes there was one midweek instead of it being an international break, but if he knuckles down in training and shows a willingness to push on I think there's enough about him for us to see him again sooner rather than later.

Carry on the way he did on Saturday and it will be "Boss Hog(gy)"

Started somewhat nervously, probably to be expected, but he soon warmed to the occasion and played an important role. I've seen a lot of Hoggy in the youth and reserve teams to know what he's capable of, so I wasn't overly concerned when I heard that he would be starting. It wasn't probably one of his better showings, he can certainly influence a game a lot more than he did on Saturday, but for a debut in front of a near full house, and against a talented outfit like Manchester United, I think that he can proudly hold his head up high. Well played son.
