Marc Albrighton - Bends It Like Beckham?

Marc Albrighton - Bends It Like Beckham?

Strong and exciting words from David Pleat in his blog for The Guardian where the former Spurs and Sheffield Wednesday - amongst others - manager says Villa have an exciting future due to our youngsters coming through.

Pleat then points at Marc Albrighton as being potentially as good as, if not better than, David Beckham adding, "He is an exciting talent".

He also says that Albrighton will get goals because he is 'physically brave` and will get into the right areas where other wingers don`t dare to go!

"His work ethic is a manager's dream. He runs from box to box, his energy helping Luke Young defend, and races forward to aid his colleagues. There are shades of Steve Coppell in his play. His crossing, though, is more like that of Beckham. Only once, with his first delivery, did he fail to bypass the first man. Indeed he consistently delivered accurate crosses from the right, a supply-line that overshadows that provided by England's current right-sided flankers Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon and Shaun Wright-Phillips."

Pleat also points out, for all the good crosses, we are missing a physical presence up front in the absence of our two big strikers.

Albrighton for England thread: Click Here

Certainly could save the club a fortune in transfer funds as he already looks the real deal and yet he has so much developing still to do. This has to be the best crop of your players coming through now since Man Utd had their batch in the early 90`s surely?

too true... and lets not forget that his game is only as good as his team mates which have been outstanding... but i can't help but feel that the club goes backwards when in the lead... its like they focus more on defending the lead when winning instead of increasing it... not that they did that on saturday, but it has been happening. which i think was a very MON thing to do. GH will hopefully work that out of the lads. clubs like chelsea, man u and arsenal don't do that sort of thing... and neither should we.

The illness/surgery that has halted Marc's progress is a huge blow to the club too. It came at a difficult time. Speedy recovery Marc, you will be sorely missed.
