Harsh lesson for Villa blend

Think about this. Gerard Houllier is developing an asset which hasn't existed at Villa Park for over a decade: a viable and experienced first-team squad.

And still they come from the youth team! Jonathan Hogg from the start and Chris Herd towards the end made their Villa debuts - on the biggest stage, against Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United.

Okay 2-all is a massive disappointment after leading two-nil with 17 Fergie Time minutes to go, but Houllier is doing the right thing - and Villa keep building towards a common purpose. Some consistency.

Dreadfully unlucky today guys. Typical fecking United. You played some really nice football and battered them for the majority of the time.

Jonathan Hogg played good, everyone on the villa team did, didnt see much of Chris Herd but he was awsome aswell. So gutted we lost but happy cause Ithink we ripped man utd apart overall!

Would the likes of Heskey, Carew, Sidwell, Petrov , NRC made a huge difference today... don't think so, maybe useful late on for fresh legs... but with Delph and Gardner to come back, Ireland I still think will come good some of our older players should be wondering how they will get back in. More than anything else today it was a Villa team that played with great commitment and spirit. Well done Mr H and the entire squad.

If the ref had a backbone it would have even better. one rule for utd and another rule for the rest of us. well done team and well done GH for believing in the youth, long may it continue.
