The New Drogba To Villa? Press Transfer Talk

The New Drogba To Villa? Press Transfer Talk

The Daily Star are linking Villa with Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis with a replacement for John Carew seemingly a priority after their bust up.

The striker is apparently rated at around £9.5m and has been dubbed the 'New Didier Drogba` in France.

And on Carew Houllier said: "We had a meeting with the whole team to clarify things because there was a discrepancy between my words, which were full of praise for him, and what was put up in the Norwegian press. He realised that and that had to be clarified in front of everybody." Boring now that, JC should do his talking on the pitch and leave the manager to manage!

Vital Villa member he`sbiggerthanyouandme wrote on this link: "Now this is a link that makes perfect sense to me, I've followed this lads career since he first broke into the St Etienne team in 2006, and straight away you could understand why he's compared to Drogba, he's a handful physically and very quick, deadly in the air and can score anything from tap-ins to a belter from 30 yards. He carried St Etienne on his own at one point, near enough scoring 15 goals three seasons in a row for them, that got him his big move to Lyon where he's pretty much been in and out of the side due to them playing one up front and having an 18m striker (Lisandro Lopez) on their books, he still managed 15 goals for them last season though with four coming in the champions league. For me his game is perfect for the Premiership and he's a proven goalscorer, he's already used to playing the lone role and at just 25 he can still get better."

1958Villan says: "He is known as 'Baby Drogba' not the new Drogba. He has averaged 1 goal in 3:5 games but, that isn't what interests me, it's the tag that takes my interest. If we can buy him, and it is an if, as he's one year into a five year contract, hopefully he could turn into a similar player to Drogba."

Sounds ok to me then!

Looks a bit rubbish, why does he keep kicking the ball away and into that net thing?

Meanwhile The Sun are linking Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, linked to us already, with a £3million move to Wolfsburg with Fulham also interested in the player that cost City £14m from Blackburn Rovers.

At £3m he might be worth a punt?

I do hate all these 'He's the Pele' comments, 9 times out of 10 they never live up to their billing. Apart from the 'Togolese Zidanne' of course!

It's quite refreshing to see the list of foreign players we've been linked to of late. It's nice to know that we will actually be scouring the world market for talent rather than just these shores. Still, it's a fine line as we Villans have been proud over the last few years to buy up young English talent and be a mainly British team. I'd hate to see us become a team full of Johnny Foreigners.

I can't say i've seen him play more than a couple of times, but he's one of them players that i've always been aware of and considered to be a really decent striker. If I had he choice between him and Roque Santa Cruz i'd definatley pay the extra 6.5m and get Gomis, he'd be a very exciting buy!
