'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Proud Of The Youth - The Verdict

Gerard Houllier has said he is disappointed with the result, because he believes our performance warranted all 3 points today against Fulham.

Speaking on the Official Site following the 1-1 draw, Houllier couldn't find enough praise for our young guns as he described the overall team performance as 'outstanding'.

But yet again we are left ruing missed chances and have paid in points for failing to kill off a team when we have the chances.

'We had enough chances to seal the game, that is the only thing we could blame ourselves for, we had the chance to finish it off.'

Whilst it is a bitter disappointment, it's impossible to be too down after the game because of the way we performed, and the way that our youngsters are stepping into the breach and looking perfectly at home on a Premiership pitch.

'The overall performance was good, we played some very good football.'

He adds that he knew the younger lads would get tired, especially as two of them hadn't started a Premiership game this season, but despite all that the positives of today are clear.

'In fairness I told the boys I am extremely unhappy with the result, but the performance was outstanding.'

Star man Barry Bannan earnt special words from the gaffer.

'We put him in gradually, he started in the Cup and then we put him on against Birmingham. I think he has got the attributes of a modern footballer, skill, pass, movement, the eye for a pass.'

Now if we could just start scoring!

Outstanding? 1-1 at Fulham? At this rate we'll be playing beautiful football all the way into the second division. Wake up!

Performance has got to change into results, but we've had a striker problem for ages, Don't think we'll get relegated and only a couple of points off 5th at the moment, (br>
Think were looking at around 12th unless we can get a goal scorer in Jan

Teapot - did youwatch the game? All I read from you is negativity. Jeez - we are two points off a team who finished 4 and the media are having a *****fest over, only 4 behind City - the team most of the neggies are saying are going places. We are passing the ball so much better - even the commentators (albeit Turkish) were impressed by our performance - at one point they said a few of the passes were incredible. But why are other fans/experts saying positive things but you and others so *****ing negative - lighten up. Or shall we go back to the "hoofball".

I don't understand some of you. Last couple of seasons we were on the verge of a CL place. Two visits to Wembley and all I read was 'hoofball', 'boring', 'no rotation', 'give the youngsters a chance'. OK, GH has done what you wanted and look at the results. As I said earlier we are in danger of playing beautiful football all the way into the second division. Wake up!

I did think we were excellent at Fulham, but I don't think on the whole we are suddenly playing great football. Yes the youngsters are doing well, but they will need more back up than we have at the moment. The Blues game was a shocking performance really, so we still have a lot of work to do and I see the B'Pool game being massive as a loss would leave us looking very much in the wrong direction!
