Bannan Makes His Scotland Step Up

Barry Bannan will be called into the full Scottish squad for their friendly against the Faroe Islands on November 16.

Speaking to a host of reporters Scotland manager Craig Levein refused to 'sit' there and name the squad in advance, but he was perfectly clear that wee Barry Bannan would be given the chance to step up to the full squad to see how he goes.

'I don't want to sit here and name the squad, but I will be adding and the plan is to bring the young lad Bannan into the group.'

Levein did hint that he might experiment a little with the team, and give the next generation a chance to impress and Bannan certainly has to be near the top of that pile, if not the top - although I may be biased?

'Barry has impressed me in the under 21's and he's now appearing for Aston Villa.'

Big step up for Bannan and will be great experience for the lad and he fully deserves it given his performances this season.

Who'd have thunk it, I might even watch a Scotland match????

What an amazing few weeks for the young man, and boy does he deserve it. His introduction into the first team line-up has provided a breath of fresh air, and he looks as if he has been performing on the premiership stage for seasons, not weeks. Very much become the Villa Park flavour of the month, and long may that continue. He certainly wont be found wanting if Craig Levein awards him his first Scotland cap, and he most certainly wont look out of place on the international stage.

Hopefully it wont be too long before he puts pen to paper on a new extended deal. I'm not sure where he stands with regards his existing contract, but no doubt Gerard Houllier and the Villa Park hierarchy will want to get his long term future sorted pretty sharpish, or we might just have Manchester City (!!!) sniffing around another of our star performers come the summer of 2011. Over to you Gerard.
