'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Petrov Sidelined For 3 Months

Stiliyan Petrov has urged his team mates to kick on during his time on the sidelines as he bids to recover from his partial medial knee ligament tear.

Following his injury it was clear Petrov would be out for a number of weeks but it was unsure if he would require surgery and for exactly how long he would be on the sidelines.

Speaking on the Official Site Petrov admitted he was desperately disappointed to be out of action until gone Christmas as he's not used to having such lengthy injuries.

'I'm bitterly disappointed not to be involved. I feel ok, but it was one of those things you have just got to accept in football.'

Petrov has been impressed by our performances of late as he sees the improvements in our play that Houllier has been calling for in training - although it's obvious we are still a work in progress.

'I have every confidence in the boys to go out there and perform to the best of their ability. The team have been working really hard under the new manager and we have been playing well recently. Hopefully we can start putting a few more away.'

Petrov is also hoping we can keep our Cup run going and he'd like nothing more than another trip to Wembley to look forward to when he completes his recovery.

'We had a great run in both cup competitions last season and it is our aim to try and repeat that this time around.'

Stan has been a great servant but he will be challenged when he gets back... new signings (?), Bannan, Gardner & Delph .... competition will be good and he might not walk straight back into the starting XI
