'If It's Football, It's Vital'

He's Not Called The Dunneymonster For Nothing

Stewart Downing has said that it's unlikely anybody will be taking the mick out of Dunne for his own goal at Sunderland, least he certainly won't be.

Speaking to SSN Downing said that the team wouldn't be blaming Dunne for the unfortunate own goal because his performance level is usually so high it would be unfair to go over the top about the occasional error.

'He has been brilliant for us this season, no one is blaming him for the defeat, it's just one of those things. He redeemed himself many times over.'

As to whether Dunne would become the butt of a few jokes, Downing said it was unlikely.

'Will there be banter with Richard about the own goals record? Someone else can tell him, if they want. I'm certainly not going to and I don't know anyone else daft enough to mention it either, he's a big guy!'

The Fear
As much as I hate to say it, I'd struggle to agree with Downings appraisal that Dunne has been fantastic this season. It might be just me but I've thought many times that he looks shaky and lacking his usual focus. Hopefully it's just early season jitters and he'll iron out the creases in the coming weeks.
