Petrov - Sidelined For At Least 2 Months

Petrov - Sidelined For At Least 2 Months

Just a brief update on the Stiliyan Petrov injury.

As feared, the injury is worse than first anticipated and he will have to have the injured knee operated on.

He'll be out for at least two months.

Gerard Houllier told the official site:

'Unfortunately I think we have lost Stiliyan Petrov for maybe at least two months. We will see if he needs an operation or not - we will know that by the middle of the week.'

Adding:

'It is a shame because he was getting up to a good level. It was a very unfortunate accident.'

I'm told it could be the lateral ligament he's torn, hopefully not as that could mean 3-4 months out.

Bad news for the player, and bad news for Villa given how weak we already are in midfield. A shame that neither Gardner nor Delph are available, otherwise this could have been a blessing in disguise. I say this because there is the suggestion that our youngsters are only going to get a chance if the senior players are injured. Sometimes a manager needs help if he's going to get his team selection right.

Reo has been much better than petrov this year...Just not sure who will play in midfield with reo now, sidwell isnt good enough and we might be too exposed with ireland but yet again ireland and petrov were maybe poor together as KMac didn't really no what he was doing and houllier is 10x the manager.

Sorry but this might be a blessing in disguise. Ireland and Reo and Sidwell and Downing across the middle is a pretty good line up - but only if Ireland finds a bit of consistency. Boy, he needs a goal.

Not Petrov's biggest fan but have to say he's been playing well since GH took over, alot of what he does goes unoticed. Given all the injuries I'd go with five in the middle against small heath and play heskey up front on his own. Play with a fluid midfield of NRC, Ireland, Downing, Ash and Albrighton, letting them rotate forwards backwards and side to side when we have the ball. All that pace and movement would be too much for the noses and sheer numbers should shore up the midfield when we don't have the ball
