'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 23/10/2010

Unoial Villa News...

Sometimes I do wonder why players don't do their talking ON the pitch... or at least do their 'thing' on the pitch first and then talk the game up? Ahem, John Carew has told The Express & Star that he is fit again and won't be giving up his place without a fight. Full article and quotes. Can the big man start to chip in with goals? John Carew - Fit And Up For The Fight?

I do like the odd ramble and this is a very odd ramble.... All about Stephen Ireland, a jewel in our crown I reckon.. Stephen Ireland - Hoping To Keep Villa Place

Some more on the VMF restaurant. As a training restaurant they really do need our support in this and I must say, having been there twice - and booked in next week as well - it really is a joy to go, lovely food, great people and so nice to see these youngsters grabbing their chance with both hands and hopefully setting themselves up for life. Don't forget our offer: *VMF* Revd Pete 'We'll Be Back'

Curtis Davies has revealed his delight at being involved in first team football again since the unknown fall out with Martin O'Neill. Speaking to the Birmingham Mail after making his loan debut for Leicester City, Davies was very happy to be involved in match day action again but couldn't quite help revisiting old wounds. Describing how he felt like a 'spare part' following his recovery from injury, Davies whinged that he wasn't allowed to go out on loan last January despite needing to play games to get back to proper match fitness. 'I wasn't allowed to go on loan in January but was kept as a spare part basically. I was denied that opportunity because I was told I was going to get games and then was not even involved.' Full article: Davies Glad To Be Playing Again

James Nursey has a report in The Mirror today talking about fitness coach Robert Duverne who sounds like exactly what the players need, a hard task master! As also revealed in Mirrorsport last weekend, Villa have gone through a grueling three-week training schedule and now Villa Captain Stiliyan Petrov has talked about the new regime... Full quotes: Stiliyan Petrov ... Dying To Be Fit!!!!

Stephen Ireland is determined to make his mark later today and kick start his Villa career properly if selected to face off against the Sunderland. Speaking on the Official Site ahead of the clash, Ireland went all nostalgic for Sunderland given they were the opponents on his infamous Superman trunks day, and he'd like nothing more than to get his name on the scoresheet again. 'Last time I played there I scored there and did quite well. I need to get off the mark and start scoring and finding my touch but it is coming.'

Fieldy: It has been confirmedthat Luke Young will miss the next 3 matches with a torn hamstring, and he's not the only one on the physio's table.
Luke Young Out For 3 Matches

Steve Wade: Dogged Villa more than match the Drogless. So neither blue heaven nor blue murder against the champions for Villa and with fat Frank and Drogba missing for the visitors, Villa's oh-so-near to stealing of all the points seconds before the end, seemed to indicate that the gap between them and the best team in England, right now, isn't the gulf which many had dreaded, going into the game. A home draw against a slightly weakened top side, gives a few clues as to Villa's current status. Full article: Something For The Weekend (304)

Fieldy: Gerard Houllier has more than one reason to be chuffed with our recent result against Chelsea, it showed we have a group of players who will work for each other. It did want to title this, 'Praise for team, Clark and Sunderland Get Bent' but I thought that would be a bit of a mouthful.
Speaking on the Official Site ahead of the Sunderland clash, Houllier took the time to praise players like Stewart Downing for filling in out of position and Ciaran Clark for stepping up to the plate and repaying the faith that was shown in him. Full quotes:
Houllier's Belief In Clark + Praise For The Team

Gerard Houllier has said he has been pleased with the progress of the squad since joining and although a lot of things are being done differently the players are enjoying it. Speaking on the Official Site Gerard said he was aiming for the squad to adopt the 3 P's, a simple set of guidelines that he sees as intrinsic in improving us...Progress, Performance and Pleasure. 'This is a different team, even though we have the same players. We are doing things differently. We know that the players enjoy it, that's the main thing.' Houllier adds that part of it is simply keeping the players engaged in new methods, and points out himself it's pretty pointless to have players working on things reluctantly but thankfully that isn't the case.
Houllier Pleased With Progress

Ash To Make It Third Time Lucky? GH Hopes So ... Barry: last year of his deal. Does he sign a new deal? No. Milner: last year of his deal. Does he sign a new deal? No. Young: last year of his deal. Will he sign a new deal? Not at the moment and to be honest he is right not to. Full article:
