'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ashley Young - Contract Negotiations On Hold?

James Nursey at The Mirror says that Ashley Young wants a buy out clause in his new contract. The 25-year-old England winger is keen to sign and has told a close friend of mine how much he loves it at Villa. However apparently he wants a set £x escape clause should a big offer come in.

I guess, with the way players and football is these days, that isn't too outlandish and again, if we can double or treble our money on him, it is the way that football works.

Apparently the Club are in 'advanced' negotiations and Ash will be on around £75 000 a week. Bit low isn't it? Bloody slave labour if you ask me, I'd not get out of bed for anything less than £100k a week to be fair.

The worrying thing in this report is it is said the buy-out clause he wants is around £13-14m. That is way too low. £25m fair enough.

Problem is, his current deal runs out in 18 months so he is in the driving seat really.

In a report by Shaun Custis of The Sun it is claimed Ash has 'dramatically' called off the contract talks.

Gulp, they quote him as well!

'I've told the people at Villa that I won't be signing a new contract at the moment. I know they want to get it done now but my current deal still has a year to run after this season and I feel there is plenty of time to talk next summer.'

He does add in SunSport: 'I want to stress that I have no problem with Aston Villa. I love the fans and I'm very much enjoying my football. I want to concentrate on what's happening on the field and don't want to get distracted. It's a big season for me and I'm hopeful there are good times ahead under the new manager.'

Gerard Houllier is also quoted saying that Ash has a good international future and adds, 'His involvement and dedication to what he does at training is really a good sign for the future for him.'

Vital Villa is now available on both facebook and twitter, so if you are that way inclined and more importantly understand all this new fangled dangled stuff, feel free to watch us, poke us or whatever else you are meant to do there!

What sort of distraction is it to sign a docujment and get and extra £25k a week.......? He puts off discussuions and loses about £800k... he is off in the Summer rest assured

Buy out clause will never be that low, we bought him for like £9-£12m so £25 is fair. Does make you panic panic when the Sun uses an actual quote, next thing cats and dogs lying together. I think he wants to focus on busting into the England squad more than anything at the moment and get his head down. our wages are also still an issue.

AdSounds like he'll be going then, wasnt he making positive noises not long ago about signing a deal, and now hes back tracking. From reading this does it mean hes out of contract summer 2012, so hes free to sign a pre contract agreement next january?

Don't blame him one bit... it's good of him to be truthful. I respect his honesty.

well..if Rooney can do a u-turn and sign for 5 years, i'm sure Ash can do same......
reza
Zarch what are you on about? Whats honest about saying he will sit down and discuss a new contract only to then delay the talks. He will be off in the summer, I will gladly accept any abuse if I am proven wrong. And Reza unfortunately we don't have the retention power of Utd

He clearly wants to see how well we do this season and how well we strengthen in the january window. If we do rubbish he'll be gone... mark my words....

lets be honest here...what would u do if you were in Youngs position? Would you be honest and wait and exercise your right to move on to opportunities where success is bigger or remain loyal (not a villa fan i must add) ? Ofcourse i would love him to commit and i think all he is doing right now is giving Houllier a chance to see where we go and who we sign come January.....
reza
Well if you would like to here my opinion here goes, Mr O'Neil, left Villa as he was tapped up by the new owners of Liverpool a few months back to say they are taking over and they would like him to be the manager (bit like Randy did before he took over at Villa) Now the deal has gone through at Liverpool and Hodgson is about to be sacked Young has had a phone call from O'Neil, he is getting the job and wants Young, hence no more contract discussions

Who the hell would play for that twonker?

Totally agree with reza. He is waiting to see how things go under Houllier before he signs. I really don't think it is that big a deal. As for ant1ant1 comments; what total bunch horse $h1t that is. What a complete dwad you are sir.

It was a joke, I was lampooning the wild speculation that will be in the papers as to why this has happened, jeez some people are up tight

well... oh I was just about to say Rooney was able to do it but noticed Reza has beaten me to it. Fed up of the modern players treating clubs and fans with disrespect. They are all £ mad. Then again... I guess £ is nice and loyalty goes out the window!
