Stiliyan Petrov ... Dying To Be Fit!!!!

James Nursey has a report in The Mirror today talking about fitness coach Robert Duverne who sounds like exactly what the players need, a hard task master!

As also revealed in Mirrorsport last weekend, Villa have gone through a grueling three-week training schedule and now Villa Captain Stiliyan Petrov has talked about the new regime...

'My next level of fitness is dying. After the next couple of weeks I may do two marathons in a row! We have a new manager and he has pushed us really hard as he wants us to get fitter and to compete for the 90 minutes. We are making good progress and we will get fitter and fitter which is a good thing. Some days it's hard, it's physical, it's running other times it's football as well. We just need to accept it and keep working but we want to get fitter and get this club to the next level.'

He also talks about the improvement following the - correct - barbs from John Terry last season saying they knew Villa tired after 60 minutes. Petrov says the new regime means that won't happen.

From what I can understand, which in this case is quite a bit for a change, the players are also much more challenged and engaged, rather than boring training and five aside routines - in World class facilities - they now have different challenges and also training for tactics and skills, exactly what you would expect at a top club.
