This is a project I was told about some time ago when it was still in the planning phase and I must admit, I just love things like this. I know for some the focus is football only and of course, that is my main area of interest for Villa as well. However I also love the rest of what is done at Villa Park these days and this project in particular really impresses me as it shows the quality of the people who run Villa.
I was there for a second time the other night and had a thoroughly great meal again and also a great feeling to be at Villa Park and supporting such a very worthy project helping out these youngsters get a leg up in the world.
Even owner Randy Lerner has given it his full support, as you'd expect!
Alison Plant, head of Villa's Hospitality and Events said:
'Randy (Lerner) and Paul (Faulkner - our CEO) have been really supportive. They have been involved along the way in all of the planning process and been kept updated. It has been an idea we have wanted to do for some time. It is a unique concept where we are working with young people and we are helping them become chefs and front of house staff.'
The 12 local youngsters enrolled on the project have acquitted themselves commendably and Alison has high hopes for the students.
'They are doing really well and are having a great time. It has been a big change for them but they are getting to grips with it really well and we are very proud of their progress. It has been one of the best things I have ever been involved in during the years I have been at Villa Park. I am looking forward to seeing them come through and hopefully they will all pass their NVQ at the end.'
