Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk!

Ok, a few bits of gossip relating to potential transfer targets. Not totally convinced January is going to be that fruitful a time, it never is for most clubs, the summer on the other hand.

Anyway.

The Daily Mail has us linked with 21-year-old Toulouse winger Franck Tabanou. His agent is quoted: 'These two clubs (Villa and Juve) are not mentioned by chance - and there are others following him.'

We are also being linked with 26-year-old Swiss goalkeeper David Zibung who currently plays Lucerne. This report suggests that Brad Friedel might be considering his options and there is a link to Fulham.

So far we have:

id let friedal go, buy a new keeper he has 1 maby 2 more season, get 2.5m for him? buy given for 6m?

Dont get why frediel would want to leave? We are the only club who would offer him any chance of silverware unless arsenal came calling, the only thing i can think of is if he wants in at fulham he prefers london which is explainable. Given available though? Wouldnt need to worry about a goalkeeper problem as given has 6 good years left if not more.

Watch all the french links come in - easy season for the press

Go all out for Given as i really rate him and he would settle quickly given our Irish contingent. Brad's aren't up to it anymore imho, we need a youngster and Given. Will all our transfer links now be of French origin?

Id sign a keeper however Id let them fight it out for a place. I know Friedal isn't getting younger but he has no injury concerns and is still top 4 in the Prem with out a doubt. Letting Friedal go is a big loss to us and a massive gain to Fulham.

@P.Avfc. Friedel was already sacked by Houlier from Liverpool (sorry for another mention), so maybe this time around he wants to be master of his own fate. I haven't read any press of Houlier praising Friedel although I think he has had a very solid season so far. If he decides to go, I wish him all the best, great bloke, great keeper!

leelindsay: totally agree with your comment regarding Friedel. He is excellent. We should keep him and sign Given.

We have also been linked with: Toulouse Lautrec, Jean Paul Satre, Vanessa Paradis and the bloke who played Rene in 'Allo 'Allo; although I don't believe the last one as I get a strong suspicion he's putting on the whole 'French' thing. He's supposed to be very good with his head though.

We are going to be linked to anyone and everyone as January approaches, and it will make for interesting reading and much speculation, if nothing else.

Surely the number one target for Gerard Houllier is to bring in a quality proven goal scorer. We are sadly lacking in that department, as we have been for two or three seasons now. We need options and alternatives, things the curent bunch of 'samey' strikers just dont offer us.
