Unoial Villa News...

What a funny world football is. It wasn't long back - apart from a very few - that Emile Heskey was met with groans when his name was on the Villa's team sheets but since Gerard Houllier arrived and he brought Heskey on as a super sub, he's looked like a different player. Now fair enough, a few good performances do not a great player make, but come on, admit it, did you ever think you would be saying 'we weren't the same after Heskey came off' as 'most' (?) of us did yesterday? Gerard Houllier was bitterly disappointed to not take at least a point from today's clash at White Hart Lane, believing our performance was more than worthy of a proper result. Speaking on the Official Site following the disappointing 2-1 loss, Houllier believed it was a very high quality performance from the lads today and that he certainly had mixed feelings following his first defeat since arriving at B6. Tiny bit of press transfer talk for Villa today in The People. The report by Steve Bates and Alan Nixon says that Gerard Houllier wants to sign Manchester United and former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick. The England midfielder however, has other ideas and wants to stay at Old Trafford for life apparently. Manchester United Midfielder Linked To Villa

Fieldy: Marc Albrighton has admitted he has mixed feelings following the Spurs game, he's obviously happy to have grabbed his debut league goal but of course we didn't get all three points. Luke Young has already backed up previously comments that had Villa gone in 1-0 at halftime the game would've no doubt been different and Albie also holds disappointment that we were unable to see the first half out, as given his goal and our overall play he's not alone in thinking we deserved at least a point from the encounter. Fieldy: Ashley Young has been a revelation in his new role behind the front man for Villa this season to accommodate youngster Marc Albrighton into the side, and his form has been rewarded with selection in the latest England Squad. Ashley is joined by Stephen Warnock, who was at the World Cup apparently!! Full article: Ashley and Warnock in England Squad

Liverpool's loss, our gain! The Daily Mirror have an interview with our right-back Luke Young who turned down a move to Anfield in the summer. + Stevie Staunton on Warnock. Full article: A Villa Tale Of Two Full Backs!

Villa's young defender Ciaran Clark has switched from being England U20 captain to pledge his allegiance to the Republic of Ireland. He qualifies due to his Irish mother and grandparents.

Richard Dunne has told avfc.co.uk that it is his fault after he had a word with 'Clarky' (blimey, Dunne is as bad as Mike Field with his Albie, Clarkie, etc!)

Thought for the day: Five days shalt thou labour, as the Bible says. The seventh day is the Lord thy God's. The sixth day is for football.

Good to see our two full backs thriving, Luke back in the first team fold at Villa Park, and Stephen Warnock back in the England squad. He looked back to his best at White Hart Lane. Hope there's nothing in the Carrick story.
