Gerard Houllier was bitterly disappointed to not take at least a point from todays clash at White Hart Lane, believing our performance was more than worthy of a proper result.
Speaking on the Official Site following the disappointing 2-1 loss, Houllier believed it was a very high quality performance from the lads today and that he certainly had mixed feelings following his first defeat since arriving at B6.
'I think I have got mixed feelings because at the same time that I am proud of their performance, I'm disappointed with the result.'
Our same old problem of taking our chances was certainly at the fore again today and even Houllier admits it is probably the only element of the performance that we can blame on ourselves.
'The only thing we can blame ourselves for is the fact that we didn't take our chances - a couple of times we could have sealed the game.
'We gave a good account of ourselves, at times we passed the ball extremely well. In terms of the quality of the play, the effort, the character, the players are really on the right track.'
What makes it worse is Houllier believes that this was the best performance he's seen the lads put in so far.
As for Emile of the Heskey, he suffered a deadleg following Albie's opening goal but Houllier doesn't believe he'll have any problems being fit for the Chelsea game.
'It's a bad dead leg, he couldn't sprint, he seemed all right and he tried to keep on going but he couldn't.'
So we have it, the first reversal under the Frenchman but it's hard to be too disappointed because of the performance put in.
Now if only we had some striking options we could be laughing - said the same thing for 3 seasons though haven't we. Maybe that'll finally change now.
