Villa Transfer Gossip + Petrov Remains Captain

According to a brief report in the Daily Mail today Villa and Everton both want 21-year-old Racing Genk's £5m rated Belgian international striker Jelle Vossen.

HE has 13 goals in 9 league games and four goals in Europe this season. Strange link though as he only signed a five year contract with his club last month.

In other news, the papers are today quoting Gerard Houllier saying that Stiliyan Petrov will remain the Villa captain.

'I won't change captain. The captain is not only the leader on the field. He is a leader by example. He knows what we want to do anyway. I prefer to rely on a group of leaders, two or three players - not only one person. One can be the technical leader, one can be the energiser, one can be the captain.'

Let Sidwell go in Jan, we need to sort deals out for Carew and NRC urgently.

Yeah agreed delirium but don't think Houllier was implying either as technical and energiser. We have several leaders on the pitch, for me Petrov is actually one of the less influential players. But in GH we trust! :-)

not only should petrov be stripped o the captaincy but i think he should be dropped i really dnt see what he offers us nrc doing well jus what we need in the middle shame he cant pass n shout a bit better though and yh i would give the captains armband to brad or dick dunne !
black_villian
i think we are being a little too criticle of stan guys, he has good technical ability on ball, he has just not hit form at the mo i think, he is a good player okey cokey has to be the energiser lol he has an engine and half on him, technical mm i agree ash on that one lets hope ste ireland can get a run playin off heskey or gabby and ash back on left?
ClivetheVillan
this vossen sounds a good prospect it seems, i wish we would sign steven defour from anderlecht he is a midfielder i think that we need or lassana diarra we are only 3 or 4 players added to challange the top i say?
ClivetheVillan
dont understand the criticism of Petrov at all
reza
I agree majorly with ClivetheVillian's player wishes.

Petrov is a 'decent' player, after 60 mins he is useless and just running on empty, but houllier brought him off sunady so thats a sign. Dont get the comment though, if he had sense houllier he wouldnt come into the club changing the line up, formation and captain straight away as it could upset and unsettle players and thats just not what you want straight away. The line up will shape out after 10 games i bet, and we will see if petrov is still the captain when houllier gets the players trust and can change things the way he wants.

Not really sure if NRC is for us. Can't, in all honesty, remember a time when he has truly shone through and stamped his authority in our midfield. Also feel that Carlos is of more benefit to the team than Luke Young. Defence with him, Dunny, Ginger and Warnock, leaked fewer goals last season (with the exception of Chelsea). I know Luke has played well, but there is a better understanding with the other four together. Have to say as well, don't know how we could leave Dunny out of any side of ours when he's fit!

AVFCin0z the game against chelsea LY was RB. P. Avfc i would have to agree with you on that actually with regards to changing things straight away wouldnt be sensible really would it. and as for duney i cant imagine him on the bench but who you gunna drop would be harsh to drop any1 really and i dont like carlos on the right he aint comfortable out there
black_villian
I believe he will use the word 'rotation' rather than dropped when it comes to our defenders...with one eye on a cup GH will want all the players in defence fit and positive and won't drop anyone. I still believe with a bit of investment we can buy a midfielder as fit as NRC but with better passing and shooting ability. Feel sorry for Sidwell as it seems his ability will never shine at Villa and he will move on...still think he is a storming player but has never adapted or been adapted to in the Villa team.

Thanks black_villain, I stand corrected regarding Chelsea team - proves a point though doesn't it? Nothing against Luke really and I agree changes for changes sake usually go base-upwards. Nevertheless, it's not a bad "weapon" to have in your arsenal for future team selection.

Stan still has a lot to offer this football club, and its good to see Houllier giving him the vote of confidence to continue as club captain. He seems to be well respected in the dressing room, so in truth, I couldn't see the need for a change of captaincy, whereas despite having his critics regarding his performances out on the pitch, I disagree. Still worth his place in the starting line-up, and until someone better comes along, then long may that continue.
