Houllier Won't Rule Out Carlos On The Right

Gerard Houllier has praised Carlos Cuellar for his bravery and compared him to Jamie Carragher.

High praise indeed, well the Jamie Carragher of old anyway.

Speaking on the Official Site Houllier referenced Carlos' 'nothing shall pass' attitude in the match against Wolves given his noticeable cover of bombing over to help out Luke Young.

Gerard admits with the return to fitness of Richard Dunne he now has a headache, but as he admits himself:

'That headache I can take! A bad headache is when you've not got enough players.'

Although never seeing Carlos play right back, he obviously knows he has and Houllier hasn't ruled out the possibility of him playing there again if 'needs must'.

'I haven't seen him play at right back but if one day he has to play right back he'll play right back.'

So there we have it folks, the nightmare isn't quite over yet although hopefully that day will never come.

Houllier refering to Liverpool in every interview is starting to grate on me. Hodgeson come be out of there by Xmas and Ged is starting to sound like he's got unfinished business there.

If you were going to use two of the three in the middle who would you sit out? Collins maybe. Dunne and Cuellar might be the best two at the back but Dunne and Collins partner up very, very well. Tough call. It's nice to have this problem though...

in the centre, cool, on the right? Gulp.

badger0-0 you are talking out of your ar##. Luke Young is a good right back, one of the best in the country.
29/09/2010 18:13:00
Well lets be honest if Luke Young gets injured or suspendid whi is Houll's supposed to plat at right back?? Lichaj? i see what he means we dont have rb cover simple
30/09/2010 00:11:00
yeah i luvd then 5-3-2 days, gary charles at rwb alan wright at lwb i think it would work Rawlie, Cueller Dunne Collins 3 centre def's, Lyoung rwb, Warnock lwb, okey cokey centre sitting then ireland and downing bombing forward with ash playin off Heskey or gabby or Carew?
30/09/2010 01:26:00
wow i remember not long ago we were calling for o neils head for playing carlos at rb and now all of a sudden he is better than ly at rb fans always contridict themseleves !

Like I say, he isn't a right back but we had one of the meanest defences in the Prem with him in the back 4. Surely that can't be a coincidence.
30/09/2010 09:16:00
I'm sorry but Luke Young is a very average right back. The amount of times he launches an aimless pass forward when there is the option of a simple 10 yard pass is infuriating - at least Warnock can put a decent cross in on the overlap. Saying that Carlos' distribution is awful as well so I'd play Dunne & Carlos @ CB. We will just have to put up with Luke Young's wayward passing and row Z clearences until we find a more composed and technically superior replacement

We had the third best defence in the league last season and that was in no small part down to Cuellar at right back. It essentially gave us three centre backs on the field without sacrificing a midfielder. How many goals did we did concede from set pieces last season? Wasn't it the fewest in the league = 3 centre backs.
