'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Little Bannan Makes A Big Impact

Andy Blair is the latest to add his voice to the Barry Bannan bangwagon following his sparkling performance against Blackburn last night.

Our former player and current AVTV match commentator has long admired Bannan and was delighted to see him get a full 90 minutes in last night's 3-1 victory as we progressed through to the fourth round of the Cup.

It also seems his thoughts on the player aren't that removed from our new managers view of his potential.

Speaking after the match Houllier said simply of Bannan:

'He will be a player. He is a young kid but he has skill, intelligence and nearly scored too.'

There are very few who would disagree having seen Bannan progress through the ranks, he has been in phenomenal form of late and it's about time he had a good crack at a first team place.

Blair believes big things are in store for the little Scot if he keeps developing the way he has been, as he told the Official Site.

'I haven't seen a player for many a year who puts passes through like he does. He is so clever and intelligent. He plays it inside the fullback, old fashioned style.

'He is a proper, proper footballer. I love the kid. I thought he was terrific.'

Albrighton coming through as he has done, Bannan determined to make an impact. The young lads will have their off days but there's nothing better than seeing them come through the ranks and perform as they can do is there.

All good - except the use of the word "proper", thats a MON word belonging to a long gone era and makes no sense (along with a lot of the crap he used to say). At least Gerard did not use it. UTV
