Houllier says he wants to see Villa get a bit of 'bite' ... something some of us have been on about for a while. We are too 'nice' which is all well and good but with a bit more fight we could really get going and that might also spark the fans into a bit more vocal support as we'd have something to get out teeth into... gerrit... bite? Teeth? Oh sod it, my comic genius is wasted here! Full article: Houllier Looking To Bring Back The Fight
Stephen Ireland has spoken on SkySports asking for patience. 'Of course, I'm still getting to understand the players out there on the pitch, still finding my feet. I pulled my hamstring, but I'm getting there. I hope by Christmas everything will be good.' He also says he doesn't know the way Houllier works but he is hoping the manager can bring out the best in him.
Skysports.com has reported that Nigel Reo-Coker won't accept the invitation of Sierra Leone to play for them. They quote his agent: 'Obviously he is flattered by any approach, but he is not even contemplating playing for Sierra Leone. Nigel is a former England Under 21 captain, he is only 26 and he is playing Premier League football. Nigel is confident in his own abilities and if he can get start playing week-in, week-out for Villa then there is no reason why he could not force his way into an England squad.'
I was at the Villa Supporter Consultation Meeting on Saturday 18th September before the Bolton game. The Merchandising Manager John Greenfield took the time to come up and pass on all the information he could with reference to the problems with our replica kits which as you all know, are not available and won't be until November. First off John made it clear the club realise the fans aren't happy and added that they also are very far from happy, in fact the whole situation I think has been an unfair embarrassment for them. I say unfair because they have a top kit manufacturer who have let them (and us) down very badly. Full article: Head Of Merchandise Explains & Apologises Re Kit
Whilst I'm on a roll (see kit feedback article) I might as well also explain the feedback from another question I was able to raise at the SCG meeting. The reserves. I was asked by glensider amongst others to ask why some of the games are now being played behind closed doors at Bodymoor Heath. It seems that clubs are finding it more and more difficult to set fixture dates and also the venues are problematic because the clubs don't want to have reserve fixtures played on their pitches during the winter months when the grass isn't growing. astvil123: Aston Villa FC. Known for one of the most loyal and vocal group of away supporters the Premier League has. Every time I watch us play away from home then we seem to out sing the opposition home crowd for most of the game whether it's at the Britannia, Anfield, Old Trafford, The Emirates, St James's, Wembley, etc. It makes me wonder if our away support is so good why is the atmosphere in Villa Park almost dead at times this season? JCVilla: The most positive person I know........is me, trust me I`m a glass half full guy and always have been, even after a heavy defeat (like Newcastle). Sure I might sulk for the rest of the day but the following morning brings a new dawn and I`m no longer thinking about yesterdays defeat but instead I`m thinking who's next on the fixture list cos their gonna get the backlash from the mighty Villa or at the end of a season where we have gone without a trophy again...well that`s alright cos the fixture list will be out soon and we can have another crack at next season. Gerrard Houllier has spoken about his assistant manager Gary McAllister: 'I trust Gary and he knows how I want to play while Gordon (Sid Cowans to you and me) is a hero here and I was pleased when he said he would like to work with me.'
Hou Hou Houllier has been talking to the Daily Mail .... which is nice! Gerrard Houllier who will be on the bench for his first game on Wednesday night v Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup has warned it will take time to get his ideas over and to make the changes necessary at Villa. The Mirror had a snippet today saying that Gerard Houllier wants to have a look at midfielder Barry Bannan before he makes a decision whether to let him go out on loan (he is wanted by Sheffield United)
