Why Are Reserve Games Behind Closed Doors?

Whilst I'm on a roll (see kit feedback article) I might as well also explain the feedback from another question I was able to raise at the SCG meeting.

The reserves. I was asked by glensider amongst others to ask why some of the games are now being played behind closed doors at Bodymoor Heath.

It seems that clubs are finding it more and more difficult to set fixture dates and also the venues are problematic because the clubs don't want to have reserve fixtures played on their pitches during the winter months when the grass isn't growing.

I also asked if it was possible in the future for a limited few to be able to go and see the games at Bodymoor Heath and was told it was something they were looking at but that it is very difficult because obviously there are the considerations of how to get there, only really way is to drive, then the parking is an issue. Plus the first team also train there, there are academy games etc etc. So the logistics aren't easy and they would also need to be controlled and stewards used.

There are three clubs who view the reserves as so non essential that they have actually withdrawn from the league, Spurs and Blues are two of them, the third... I forget... ahem, professional as per usual!

Why do they view them as needless? Seems like good work to keep some fringe players fresh and give some younger guys a chance. Ask Bannan what he thinks about reserve games...doubt he hates 'em
