Ah it was like watching a young Gordon Cowans on display for the second string last night as Barry Bannan stole the show from Utd's £7 odd million signing Bebe and bagged himself a hattrick to boot.
Well when I say young Cowans, if you imagine him ginger, and about 2ft 4in playing in this seasons strip....you get the idea.
To describe Bannan's performance as masterful probably does it a disservice and he's certainly put himself in the shop window for Bolton. vision, tenacity and an eye for goal - how long as we been crying out for a true midfield goalscorer again?
Speaking, well positively beaming, on the Official Site Sid could hardly contain his enthusiasm at Bannan's performance and his own back to back wins since taking over the reigns from Kevin MacDonald.
'There were some excellent goals. Barry's free kick to start with was very good but his second goal was a special goal. His brain is absolutely fantastic, to see that situation and finish it with the quality he has got.'
Let it not be forgotten that Bannan also hit the bar twice.
It wasn't all Bannan though, the rest of the team did themselves no harm whatsoever and Sid was quick to acknowledge that.
'To come to up to a place like this and play against Manchester United, to put in a performance like that and come away with a 4-1 win, I thought was absolutely fantastic.
'We were just happy with the performance and the way the lads applied themselves really because they all put a shift in. We got what we deserved.'
Cowans ended with a final few words for Derrick Williams who drew the short straw in facing Utd's Bebe.
'I was pleased for Derrick, I think Bebe has probably put in two or three crosses in the whole game.'
Says it all really doesn't it.
