Some Of Houllier's Signings

Some Of Houllier's Signings

Here's a list of some of Houllier's signings and the youngsters he brought through the ranks!!..

LIVERPOOL

Riise- from Monaco
Smicer- from Lens
Hypia- from Willem 11
Henchoz- from Blackburn
Hamann- from Newcastle
Kewell- from Leeds
Finnan- from Fulham
Dudek- from Feyonord
Biscan- from Zagreb
Diuf- from Lens
Babbel- from Beyern
Mccalister- from Coventry
Heskey- from Leicester (Heskey's golden period whilst at Liverpool)
Anelka- PSG (on loan)

Youngsters he brought through

Gerrard
Carrager
Murphy

LYON

Fred- from Cruziro
Tiago- from Chelsea
Muller- from Basel
Carew- from Besiktas
Kallstrom- from rennes
Toulalan- from Nantes
Squillaci- from Monaco
Baros- from Aston Villa

Young players he brought through

Benzema
Loric Remy
Ben Arfa

What I get from his dealings is he obviously loves to shop in France but also he's a fan of Scandinavian and eastern European players too!!, he also didn't mind shopping in the premiership either whilst he was at Liverpool, he's obviously signed a few flops too in his time (which manager hasn't?) but i must say in the main that's an impressive list, especially his dealings at Lyon, Arsenal just signed Squillaci so it's clear Houllier knows his stuff,

Another interesting fact is all the youngsters he brought through went on to become internationals!!

So the man can spot a talent.

What's the point in including smicer, biscan, diouf and Kewell when they were all *****?

That Lyon list is impressive actually - he's still not an ideal choice but we would all be moaning much more if Curbishley got the job. There are definately worse candidates out there, lets get behind him and judge after the Jan window

Heskey's Golden Period! I like that! VillaWillRiseAgain, I agree with your comment about Litmanen, on his day he was a very useful player indeed, but why so many capitals in your name?

Ah, yes Fran Jeffers, the original fox-in-the-box (think Thierry Henry coined that term). Jeffers was a player who allegedly said "England comes first" (or something similar) while raking in a mint from his club. morleytowithe, never really thought about the capitals much. if they are too LOUD maybe the VV staff can 'turn them down' (ie replace them with lower case). mike_field, see your point (especially about Bradley etc), good points, well made. However, feel that they (the board) should have kept it to themselves that that was their recruitment policy (on this occasion). By making it public they were only looking for EPL experience they drew a line in the sand that they couldn't cross. Don't think that's ever a good idea.

Apart from the Baros/Carew deal while at Lyon his transfer record there is extremely strong...some very talented players!

Richard Dunne for penalties every time! I agree with the comments about Houlliers transfers being better than MON's. MON did bring in some great players, Young, Milner, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, I could go on, last summers last minute business was mostly good. The challenge is that we've still got some of the poor signings. What happens with those guys? Beye, Salifou, etc. Surely they've got to go at some point in the near future, or perhaps Houllier is able to bring out the best in them? That'd be nice, wouldn't it! I doubt they'd.

Birchy RIP- of course that's why you have a scouting system, i'm just saying that Houlier shouldn't necesarily take all the credit for these signings, when it was the scouts who would've done all the work! Does anyone know if Villa send scouts around the world, because we so rarely sign anyone from outside the PL or SPL?!
