Obviously most of the focus at the moment is on the incoming manager.

Today the press are still insisting it is Gerard Houllier and furthermore, that he will bring in Phil Thompson: Manager Press Talk Continues

Last night there were interesting quotes that Gerard had been approached but it isn't done and dusted and others are still in contention. 'It seems that it`s not a done deal there are other candidates for the job and I don`t think there will be a decision taken in the next 24 to 48 hours as we thought originally. It`s going to take a little bit longer than that so we might have to wait until Thursday or Friday before we know who is the new Aston Villa manager.' Well, well, well. Doctor Joseph Venglos... those of a certain age will remember him, much pillared but lightyears ahead of his time with nutrition etc! Anyway, he's spoken to Mat Kendrick at the Birmingham Mail. The former Villa manager said of Houllier: 'I know Gerard very well - he`s a very good friend of mine. I am sure that Aston Villa and Gerard Houllier are right for each other. It is a very good, well-run football club and Gerard is an excellent, experienced coach so they will work well together. I am sure that he is a top personality in football and he has been doing the job of the technical director in French football. He has very good contacts, very good organisation and I know him well through my involvements with UEFA and FIFA.' Full article: Click Here
