Suggestions Houllier IS Coming WITH Thompson

Ok, as many of the regular readers know, I'm not really one for ITK rubbish or for bandying about rumours - unless it is clear they are just that and we have some fun talking over press links etc.

However, three sources today are saying that Houllier is da man (I'm down with the kids) and not only that, I'm told ... and this might not be right, but from 3 sources?... that Phil Thompson could well be his assistant because he has given notice to Sky.

Now, I do want to make it clear, because I don't like being sued(!!!), that this might not be the case, however there is either mischief at Sky and the rumour is doing around like wildfire or Houllier is coming and Phil Thompson will be his number two.

Time will tell.

Oh and Chubby at Vital Liverpool has been kind enough to put up an article for me asking Liverpool fans for their opinions, so that might make for interesting reading: Click Here

I will get a Villa fan reaction article done later and have emailed a few Liverpool contacts to answer my questions as well.

Still isn't 'done' until the Official Site announces it though, but the press clamour is pointing towards it happening.

I genuinely think this is a poor poor choice that is going to set us back as a club, never been a houllier fan and phil thompson what a joke. Despite that i will support whoever is in charge and hope i am wrong.

Surely we don't want to be appointing all the back room staff of Houllier as well as that is just more to get rid of when he leaves or gets sacked. We want the back room staff to be Villa people with a good experience of coaching that are here for the long term. We don't want another O'neil case where we have no staff to cover all the coaching roles. Well I actually want that for the manager as well but doubt we will get it. I think Houllier is an average manager that would not do well at a club without star players and something does not feel right if he gets the job as manager. He had one great season at Liverpool and most fans in the end didn't like him even though he won things. Yes he had a couple of league wins with Lyon but Lyon had already won the league title the four seasons before he managed them and they won the season after he left as well so I don't count that as anything of great management. I'm usually really up beat and positive about anyone that comes to Villa as a player or manager. I usually look for the positives but I just can't get excited about Houllier no matter how many websites I look at.

Seems like a lot of Fans are not going to be over the moon if Houllier is the main manager. The club will be making a mistake and taking a chance they don't need to take in my opinion.

I think it says a lot when Jozef Venglos recommends Houllier and Graham Taylor recommends Macdonald. I know who I would listen to and that would not be some like Venglos that failed big time at Villa

Houllier is better than alot of those that we've been linked with but I'm still not sure. As for old big nose, he's a grade A muppet, and even if he was any good, he's so in love with the scouse scumbags that he'd be celebrating if they finished above us.

I have a friend who is a bookie. He reckons that GH has only been offered a short term deal until the end of the season. He is sure GH will decline this - and he has stopped taking bets on Curbishley as he 'knows' he was 2nd choice.

throughfingers. When you say something substantial, do you mean all the times he has belittled our club on international television? When he was discussing the Villa situation on Sky, I was watching when he said 'it is only Villa and they have to understand their limitations, it is not like they are Liverpool'!!!! There is no way no earth that a man, who when asked for his views as an impartial observer, said 'it is only Villa' will ever be welcome at Villa Park, unless of course it is a target practice. We have no limitations. We ARE the Villa. We have ruled Europe and have won more than nearly every other club in the League. We have no limitations and we will not be condescended to by some bottom feeder, who makes a living from Sky Sports. We are not naive enough to think the next manager must be a Villa Fan. Your Rooney comment is a fair one. But lets do it with a reasonable example. If Paul Scholes was targeted by Liverpool in years gone by and had said prior to signing, it is only Liverpool and they must realise their limitations, do you think the Redscouse fans would have accepted him?? His house would have been burnt down before the ink was dry on the contract. Thompson must not ever, in any way shape or form, ever be able to pick up a wage at Villa Park, that you, me and tens of thousands of others have contributed to. The campaign must start now. Say NO to Pinocchio, say NO to Pinocchio, say NO to piniocchio, say NO to Pinocchio.

I think its very naive to say the club should not listen to the fans! The fans are who keep the club going and yes while we all have a difference of opinion without the fans backing the club will soon slide downwards. Especially in our case with American owners they really need to take notice of what we think. Yes obviously you don't just do what the fans want as you need to do what is right for the club but you have to have a very big consideration as to whether the manager will be welcomed and backed. You can't please everyone but you surely aim to please the majorities where possible. I don't think taking on Houllier as manager is pleasing the majority. A manager can come in and do well and slowly build up the backing from fans but a manager of 63 would not have much time to do that. A few bad results and the unrest with the Villa Fans will be massive. I usually support Villa though thick and thin and its usually myself telling fans to be more positive and give things a go but I just cant feel good about appointing a manager that's is 63. I want to look to the future and this appointment would feel like going backwards to me. Take a look at O'Neil, the majority of fans backed him coming here and got excited, attendances went up etc and there was a feel good factor going on and rubbing off on the players. Do you really think that will happen with Houllier? Do you really think the players are going to get excited? How many players have you heard that came to play for Houllier so he can develop there game? Hw long before attendances drop? We all know what Villa fans are like and this appointment will do more harm than any good. I would rather they pick a unknown from the lower leagues and take a chance rather than take a chance on this as that is exactly what its doing. Ok lets say it works out ok for a few seasons. How long before health reasons bring an end to his management? How long does he propose to stay managing for? This is a short term fix which will mean we will be looking for another manager in a few years and the story goes on and on and on. I personally want Macdonald to be give a crack at the job but I would give my backing to and get excited about Jol, Hughes, Moyes etc, even curbishley as at least they all have a chance of building something for the future. How much money are we going to give Houllier when he will only be here for a few seasons at most?
