Gerard Houllier - NOT A Done Deal For Villa

Ok, so... more on the manager situation, surprise surprise.

www.talksport.co.uk have an interview with French football correspondent Phillippe Auclair.

Full quotes www.talksport.co.uk with the link to the Football First show.

Basically the correspondent confirms he has spoken with supposed target Gerard Houllier who confirmed there had been contact with Villa and that Villa were interested in him as manager.

However it doesn't look a done deal at all... which is how some press are reporting it.

'It seems that it`s not a done deal there are other candidates for the job and I don`t think there will be a decision taken in the next 24 to 48 hours as we thought originally. It`s going to take a little bit longer than that so we might have to wait until Thursday or Friday before we know who is the new Aston Villa manager.'

So... more of a wait and not necessarily Houllier as the end result. I'd rather wait and get the right man whoever it is.

Worryingly Auclair also says that he wants to get away from the criticism he has been getting in France over his role in the French set up and their woeful World Cup.

On a positive note... 'He loves English football he genuinely has a passion for English football it`s the football he feels closest to. He feels that he really belongs here and this is his proper football home rather than France.'

http://www.francefootball.fr/FF/breves2010/20100905_185454_houllier-confirme.html reports.... (loose google translation) that he has been contacted by Villa. They say he would be after the manager role not a director of football role.

The report also says Dutchman Ronald Koeman and also Alan Curbishley are also still in the running.

Ok, so poll time... ahem!

Kouman, Houllier or Curbishley?

Id rather Houllier than Koeman, I think its just because he is a bigger name than houllier....He has no premiership experience and has had a decent career abroad but nothing special, look at ruande ramos. Houllier has the experience and won a fair amount...Both not even my first choice, Jol would still be my favourite and if not him KMac and appoint him until someone better is available unless he does a good job.

I'm with you Albarnista. I think most Villa fans are nostalgic at heart and would love to have a name and a bit of a character to look up to and Houllier does not fit that role, along with Curbs. Koeman may as everyone in the know remembers his passing was second to none - best in the world. However, sublime player does not begat great manager...see Hoddle for example. So who do we really want...Hughes or Jol that's for sure. I'd rather Sven in a DoF role to be honest as he has a knowledge I believe even passes GH and can still attract players...if only we could get Jol or that type of class to work beneath him. One things for sure I think we need a shake up and unfortunately for KMac he may win but as soon as he starts to lose there'll be plenty saying it was a bad choice - like McClaren after Sven - either shake it up properly with a good support system i.e. Sven and KMac, Sven and Koeman, GH and KMac etc or run the risk of KMac faltering under the immense pressure to deliver the wins this club and supporters deserve. Good luck to the next guy/s....whoever you are. UTV.

Albarnista people turned on O'neill when we went out to rapid vienna last year 'some' not all like the KMac situation, I'm just used to your whinging and would like you to carry on.

Sorry that should read 'not short term fix' and just add that I hope who ever the manager is the Villa fans need to be patient! but I know they won't be. Alex Fergusons first seasons finishes in charge were 11th, 2nd, 11th, 6th. I know most Villa fans will be calling for the managers head if we finished 11th! This what comes back to its no good having an old manager and we can't give them time to build the team for the long term so it will be more short term fixes and we won't progress.
