'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 31/08/2010

Unoial Villa News...

Bit of manager talk about today, not likely to be much transfer talk on deadline day is there?! That said, one report says that Celtic have enquired about a loan move for Curtis Davies according to the Daily Mirror.

Now for the fun! Alan Nixon in The Mirror has an 'exclusive' on David Moyes. Not convinced it is exclusive really but hey, that doesn't really matter! It was all over the web last night and text's were going mad that Ladbrokes had suspended better on the Everton boss being announced as Villa's next manager. Apparently the odds dropped with some bookies from 33-1 to 3-1. Full links: Moyes, Allardyce, Hughes, McLeish All Linked!

The date for the Carling Cup clash v Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park is September 22nd. 7:45pm kick off. I'm sure ticket news won't be too far behind this announcement.

There are a couple of interesting player interviews in the press today. The first is from Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov who was angry that he was reported as having a go at the club last week. In an interview with Mat Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail Petrov said: 'Something came out which said I said we were going backwards. I haven`t been saying that and I just wanted to say we have been working really hard and have been really supportive to Kevin MacDonald, to the chairman and to the club, because we know how hard it is. When we saw what came out, it really hurt and I hope these things won`t come out. I want to set the record straight.'

And then Luke Young says he is far more happy and settled now. Both interviews: Petrov Didn't Attack Club + Luke Young Happy

Luke Young has no intention of going anywhere and he'll be happy when the window shuts so people will stop enquiring. Quoted in the Birmingham Mail Luke was happy that he had remained at the Villa and said he had no intention of going anywhere, but was looking forward to the managerial shenanigans coming to an end. 'I will feel more settled when the window shuts. There are still people ringing me, left right and centre to see if I'm available. I want to play for Villa.' Glad that Stilyan Petrov was allowed the opportunity to clarify his comments made last week, comments that a few perceived to be a little knock at the club, and a suggestion that in his opinion the club was going backwards. His response in the interview with Brum Mail chappie Mat Kendrick ( a huge improvement may I say on Baggie Bill) showed just how easily innocent comments can be taken way out of context. Also very pleasing to read Luke Youngs observations. I for one (and I know that I'm far from the only one), am absolutely delighted that he is staying at Brummagem B6. It should never in truth have been an issue. Far and away one of the best right full backs in the top flight, replacing Luke would have been a near impossible task.
