ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL GOLF DAY
On Thursday 5th August, the Aston Villa FPA Golf Day & Dinner, sponsored by Wavenet UK, was held at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club and a great day and evening was had by all 72 golfers, including 24 former Aston Villa players, and the 120 that attended the evening dinner.
With the two best net scores in each fourball counting on each hole, the winning fourball with 92 points was 'Fleming`s Wanderers` that included former Villa goalkeeper Tommy Hughes. Runners up with 87 points were the 'Sertec` team that included former Villa player & asst. manager John Deehan.
A number of individual competitions were also featured on the day, and these were won as follows.
Nearest the Pin - Derek Mountfield (ex Aston Villa)
Longest Drive - Neil Cox (ex Aston Villa)
Best 'Guest` player - Geoff Nagel 43 pts
Best Aston Villa player - Colin Gibson 39 pts
As a member of Sutton Coldfield GC, it was a sweet victory for Colin Gibson who pipped former Villa 'great` Allan Evans for first place by just one point.
In addition to the aforementioned, the other former Aston Villa players present were; Andy Blair, Darren Bradley, Des Bremner, Gordon Cowans, John Donnelly, Dick Edwards, Bernie Gallacher, Ray Graydon, Tony Hateley, Pat Heard, Gordon Lee, Peter McParland, Chris Nicholl, Alan O`Neill, Bruce Rioch, Neil Rioch, Gary Shaw, Shaun Teale, and Bobby Thomson.
Our thanks go to Sutton Coldfield GC for their excellent hospitality, to the event sponsors Wavenet UK, to FragranceMad.com for supplying the 'goody-bags`, to The Aspiration Group who coordinated the event and ran a superb 'Beat-the-Pro` challenge, to Citroen who again provided a car for the Hole-in-One competition, to Roger Bunn for his invaluable assistance, and to Paul Burrell (MC) and Clayton Stephens & Family for providing another fantastic evening of entertainment.
The event raised over £5,000 for the new Aston Villa Former Players Foundation charity.
