There are a couple of interesting player interviews in the press today.
The first is from Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov who was angry that he was reported as having a go at the club last week. In an interview with Mat Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail Petrov said: 'Something came out which said I said we were going backwards. I haven`t been saying that and I just wanted to say we have been working really hard and have been really supportive to Kevin MacDonald, to the chairman and to the club, because we know how hard it is. When we saw what came out, it really hurt and I hope these things won`t come out. I want to set the record straight.'
'We all try to move this club forward and that`s our jobs and we want to have success and I hope we can straighten things out.'
It is awful when these reports come out and you see totally the opposite of what you have said in print. There is also little you can do about it... and then comes the stick and banter! Anyone remember 'Jonathan Fear, Villa fans spokesman' .... gulp. That was horrendous for mickey taking and also some very barbed 'attacks' from others! lol
Petrov also says the managers job at Villa is both 'massive' and 'great'.
The other interview is with Luke Young in The Sun who denies any bust up with Martin O'Neill and remains mystified as to why he was frozen out.
'I never really went in and asked: 'Why am I not playing?' It was a confusing time for me. I didn't get an answer to anything. It's refreshing now to have the feeling that if you are playing well you might keep your place and the lads who are out of the side, if they train hard, they might get in. So it's a bit of a clean slate for everyone.'
He also says there is still plenty of interest in him with people ringing to see if he is available, he added 'I don't believe I am any more so, hopefully, that will make everything a bit more settled once the window shuts and I can concentrate on what is going on at Villa.'
Great news, so he wants to stay and most of the Villa fans certainly seem to want him to stay, he got loads of support even when just warming up during matches last season and deservedly so in my opinion, he's never let us down on the pitch.
