Matthew Kendrick at The Birmingham Mail has had an interesting chat with Villa caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald.
Which is nice.... (did anyone watch the Fast Show by the way?!?)
Big Mac says the board are working hard at the managerial situation and on the owner says he has been in a lot of contact with Randy and Paul Faulkner.
'He`s been very supportive of what`s gone on. They have obviously been to watch the team play. You`ve got to remember it`s difficult for myself and Mr Lerner. We are short staffed and there`s everything going on that we are trying to sort out. A lot of people would say that the club has been put on hold, but Paul has been doing things behind the scenes. Whether he`s tried to get players in or players out, he`s had recommendations from one or two of us. Whether we can do any deals I don`t know - there`s nothing on the horizon.'
He also acknowledges that he'd be surprised if teams weren't interested in Ashley Young following the recent Spurs links.
The press it appears are warning Villa fans to brace themselves for a bid by Spurs before the transfer window closes.
Whisper It... Ashley Young Outward Rumour :(
Kevin MacDonald says there has been no contact so far. Harry Redknapp said recently he'd like Young but that the player isn't for sale. The whisper I don't like is that Young will ask for a transfer.
However as Big Mac says, it isn't always down to the player, he is under contract 'It might not be their choice. If the club needs them and they are under contract the club will probably want to keep them.'
Hopefully this is all nonsense, from the rumbles from well sourced press, there might be something in it. All I'd say is show some balls Ash, give us at least until Christmas, don't be a rat leaving a 'sinking ship' stand up as one of our star players, put things right on the pitch and see who the new manager is before looking to move on.
Reasonable?
And in a Sun article... with a very questionable headline it has to be said... Get ready for volcanic Ash (EH?) by Shaun Custis, Ash has spoken of the current situation at Villa.
'I'm a positive person. You can't carry defeats around on your shoulders, because you would be going into the next game having too many negative thoughts. You have to look forward. Of course, the Newcastle result crushed us. We just crumbled. It hasn't been a good week, with what happened in the Europa League as well. But it's the way you bounce back which shows the character in the squad.'
He also says it was a shock when Martin O'Neill walked out but that as a player you have to concentrate on your own job.
'You can't let the managerial position affect your thinking. It's like when players get sold. You have to rebuild. We still have a great team spirit and everyone gets on with everyone. Whatever has happened recently doesn't change that. James Milner going is down to him. He goes with everyone's best wishes. We've Stephen Ireland to replace him, who's a great player, and a lot of youngsters coming through. We believe we can put things right.'
"I want to play at the highest level, win the big tournaments, win the big trophies - and I still believe we can achieve great things at Villa."
So... there!
