Koeman Wants To Lead Villa To The Holy Land

Koeman Wants To Lead Villa To The Holy Land

Right then, manager talk...!

Been a lack of it and I think the press and bookies keep jumping on the wrong boat. For instance, I have said that if Bob Bradley becomes our boss I'll walk around Villa Park wearing just a strategically placed sock on to save some semblance of dignity! My blushes are very much not in danger in my ever so humble opinion.

Then we have Big Mac. Lets face it, he has talked his way out of the job BUT has done what has been asked of him to hold the fort whilst we attract a manager (and again, timing to get one in isn't easy right now...etc)

So anyway, today's gossip surrounds... actually, it isn't gossip this time, it is quotes from Dutch legend Ronald Koeman who once again (see:
Ronald Koeman Wants In! Manager Talk ) has said he would love the job and could bring back the glory days to Villa Park.

Interesting forum thread on the subject (some strong language / opinions) Click Here

So, Graham Hunter has an exclusive interview in The Express

According to the report Koeman has been 'sounded out'.

I can believe that, purely because Villa are doing the right thing, listening to applicatants and talking/approaching people within the game to get the right man in, not just a rushed man in. Frustrating for all whilst we wait but hopefully VERY worth the wait once the new man is in.

Koeman said and it is nice to read... and also something some of us older fans do keep banging on about... we have a MASSIVE name in the world of football, we've not won much of late fine but we are still a very big club: 'In Holland we have always viewed Villa as an important club with a tradition of being powerful in Europe when I was younger, so I would be very interested in managing them if the job was offered to me. Even though the last two results have been painful blows, I also saw them take West Ham apart 3-0 and I enjoyed the playing style.'

He says if he got the job he'd be looking at winning playing 'offensive' football. Now I don't think he means he'd have 11 Joey Bartons in the team, I think he means we'd be playing attacking football! :o)

'I love English football because of its brilliant atmosphere, intensity of the competition and the culture of respect that fans and players have for the game.'

He also says he has turned down approaches to get back into management because he wants to get to the Premiership adding, '...and where better than Villa Park?"

The report goes on to explain some of the 47-year-olds achievements: The Express

'Villa have the perfect blend of talented young English players and experienced continental footballer, so I see no reason why they could not qualify for Champions League football next season. I`ve coached in Holland, Portugal and Spain and not only won trophies each time, but taken sides to the latter stages of the Champions League. I`d like to match that with Villa if the job becomes available.'

That there is fighting talk.... As said, interesting thread in the forum: Click Here

He certainly has 'the name' and a big reputation.

Anyone agree that this is so good to hear from someone like him? It does fill me with hope but i dnt no if he will actually be a good manager but he looks the part and his interview sounds so convincing! Who else we gonna get though? We mayaswell give him ago he got benfica in the champions league and porto i think and did well with them so why not.
28/08/2010 12:48:00
actually of all the managers available i would say yes to koeman, maybe he could then help us land jan vertonghen and luis suarez from ajax, that would do for me!!!
28/08/2010 12:57:00
luis suarez your kidding right?
28/08/2010 13:17:00
no mate thought he was class in the World cup and for ajax the other evening he never gave up unlike some of the objects wearing our shirt and he scores goals!
28/08/2010 14:03:00
Let's give Koeman a go, then sign Given (did I mention that before?) and Keane. We aren't going to make a splash in the market this year, so let's get a goal scorer and a goal stopper...the rest, we can deal with.
