Has Big Mac Had His Chips?

Has Big Mac Had His Chips?

To start just a warning to Aston Villa, I remember reading the General saying he was disappointed with the ticket demand from the fans for the West Ham, Vienna and Everton home ties; well after listening to the Villa fans on the phone in on the way home the crowd will be much smaller than what we saw tonight with Villa fans stating they will boycott the Everton game in protest and until Randy Lerner and co sort out the manager situation with an experienced big name to suit this big club then they will not be coming back to Villa Park. Regarding tonight's match, what a shocking performance!

The players said they 'owed us' a performance and that tonight we should have 'expected a great response' for the embarrassing 6-0 we suffered against Newcastle. Well if that was our team playing well then we are well and truly screwed for this season! We rested Warnock and Downing today when they were definitely needed! Habib Beye at left back? Tactically, yet again, Kevin McDonald got it completely wrong.

For this game the likes of Friedel, Warnock and Downing needed to start! The club is in an absolute mess, Villa can say all they like about how the club is not in a crisis but the start to this season has been absolutely woeful! Whether it is MON's fault it doesn't matter, he left 18 days ago. Kevin MacDonald says he will soon DECIDE whether or not he would like to APPLY for the job?

This is ridiculous!

We don't need Kevin, we need a manager!

Someone to take charge!

Who knows how to get our team to bounce back from poor displays such as Newcastle and Vienna.

Is anyone available? If no manager is then why not do what everyone else does. Open up your wallet Randy and ring up the likes of David Moyes, Martin Jol, Frank Rijkaard, Guus Hiddink, Slaven Bilic and Mark Hughes. We need changes! A new manager, a new captain, a new era, but we need that change now! We will come out of this, we always do, keep the faith! But, decisions need to be made now because this is beyond a joke!

The only way is up, but I can say I will be one of the very very very few that attend Sunday's game at home to Everton. I would be surprised to see a crowd of more than 25,000, but after Newcastle away and tonight I do not blame the fans who do not show on Sunday, we deserve much much better!

"whether MON is to blame or not"... HE WALKED at THE very worst time he could. Stunningly bad for the club, stunningly bad for the board who have to try to replace him and stunningly bad for the fans who adored him. Bad enough for those who didn't rate him - he's let us all down - but most severely bad for those with an undying love for him.

For me Big Mac needs to say he isn't in for the job, the board need to be strong and see he isn't right for the job, a good coach and he is a massive asset to the club but it is one step too far this management level PURELY based on his comments about not being sure. IF you aren't sure then that is the question answered.

As to 'who in' it isn't as easy as we all say to get a quality manager when your manager left 5 days before the start of the season and the implications from some that they will wait until after the transfer window is closed is just insulting after what has been spent at this club and how much has been wasted by MON (all managers make mistakes but some of our players, some who cost £8 - £12m are just not up to the job, many of us raised eyebrows at the prices at the time. Yup, expensively assembled squad which he then lost in the dressing room and left us all in the lurch before the season started.

We've suddenly gone from being a well run club thats hard to beat, to being an absolute joke. Some of the defending last night was absolute schoolboy stuff, Habib Beye needs to go back to where MON left him. Dont think its any coincidence that the players MON saw every day and didnt think were good enough have been woeful since they came back (Beye, Davies, NRC) We need a manager now to stabalise us, and whoever it is, im sure a lot of people wont like him as they did with MON, but we all need to get behind whoever it is and the players or the club we all love could seriously fall apart

very good article and valid to the point of being scary. cannot believe the owner has spent the last few years improving the stadia encouraging the fans back and is now letting it fester like this. That ceo faulkner looks like a puppet of his league as well!

Agree with you Fear. The Big Ego knew what he was doing when he left. But the question is where do we go from here? I think given the pausity of the prospective candidates, we are going to have to take a chance with a younger man. Paul Lambert? Simon Grayson? Someone of that ilk I think. Most of the rest are either money & fame junkies or are failed ex managers. Curbishley? If he was such an obvious choice, why is he still out of work? There are always things known inside football that we the fans know little or nothing about. Two years ago someone told me what he thought MON would do. And he has now been proved right. I think we need a younger man with confidence who understands the modern game and how to get the best from overpaid under caring players. I have no doubt that the drift of the last few weeks was evident last night - where was the tempo and the passion - we need a decision soon and it what ever it is there will be a risk. Grab the nettle Randy and be brave - go for a rising star not a faded shell.

Apparently, Klinsmann and Bradley are not in the running. KM deserves credit for blooding youth and giving fringe players another chance. He doesn't look like he's enjoying himself though. He's done a terrific job in his usual role, and would probably best serve Villa there. Really would like to see a new manager appointed soon. Last night highlighted (once more) that 4-4-2 doesn't work with this current crop of Villa players. One hopes that any new manager/coach takes that on board.

I understand the worries, but the talk of boycotts and such is laughable. The crowd on Sunday will be around the 35,000 mark. Not the best but the doom and gloom of this post is unbelievable. That said, Randy must act now. Last night was the culmination of a business without direction. Players who have hardly played in 12 months (notably Davis and Beye) were not up to speed. The quality of the players is good, that hasn't changed, but like any business, when it is in a state of flux, mistakes happen. Randy must not act like he is 'caught in the headlights'. We know that Kevin Mac is not the man for the job, he is wonderful at the youth and reserve level and that is where he must stay. We also know that the media wheels were oiled to guage fan reaction to Bob Bradley. Unfortunately for Randy (but fortunately for Villa) the reaction was very much anti the apppointment of a guy without absolutely any big league, big player, big demand experience. The appointment of Bradley could insticate some sort of boycott. This has left Randy with a problem and one he must address asap. The lack of direction will probably lead to a defeat on Sunday as players look to the owner to make a decision. But a decision must be made. Randy, it is over to you!!

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. People moaned about MON's tactics and Big Mac's given us different ones. We look a lot better in attack, we move the ball about more and players move with it. The results will come people just have faith in Macky Gee

One thing MON did very well was get us playing like a team. K-mac has made wholesale changes each game, no1 has been able to settle.
