Gabby Puts Himself On The Spot

Gabby Agbonlahor has said he is more than willing to take over penalty duties at the club following John Carew's horrific miss against Newcastle last weekend.

The subject of penalties and the player to take them has been quite a hot topic over the last few seasons with Barry, Milner, Ashley, Carew all stumbling at points, and since Carew reminded us last weekend of the joys of Waddle and Pearce the topic is up for debate again on the forum.

Throwing his hat firmly in the ring, Gabby has said he'd love the chance to take the pens in future and if presented with the chance tonight, he'll punish Rapid from the spot.

Speaking on the Official Site Gabby explained it had been difficult to get a look in over the years with Barry and Milner being our most reliable spot kickers, but he's more than happy to take over that mantle and boost his goal tally in the process.

'Is it something I'd be prepared to do, yes. I'd have liked to have had a go in the past but it was hard.'

He knows his chances have improved following the weekend's Rugby exhibition, and of course playing Rapid tonight most people will remember Ashley's miss in the corresponding fixture last season.

'If I get a chance to take one then I'll step up and take one. I think John's off them now after Sunday!'

Gabby's got 26% of the vote so far .... Why ?? if he has to think about the shot, he won't know what the bloody hell to do. IMO It's still got to be Carew for the penalties, so what if he missed one (OK, i admit, it was a shocking miss !), but we all make mistakes. But let's face it, Carew has been our best penalty taker for a while now, and should carry on as the No1 spot kick taker !!

let an opposing player take it so he can pass to his keeper, this way we have a chance of keeping the ball in the stadium, there is a recession on dont you know :?p in all seriousness if allbrighton is on the pitch if not downing has to be in with a shout. gabby too much thought and young never looks confident enough for me from 12 yards.
