LOL.. Manager NOT About To Be Announced + Big Mac

Well, the manager talk centres mostly on Kevin MacDonald.

Oh, before that... the rumour that a major new manager is set to be announced... this following a so called ITK and being linked in Robbo's blog... and that three players are coming in with him is total and utter junk. These in the knows really should get their facts straight before winding up fans and getting people excited!

Reports suggest that Randy Lerner and the players are keen on Big Mac.... Big Mac isn't convinced though?

I think the very fact he isn't convinced means he should stay in the excellent position he holds and carry on doing what he does so well bringing the kids through in the reserves and helping the fringe senior players back into the full team.

Then again, what do I know?

I just think if you aren't sure that you want this job, then it is a massive mountain to climb and what happens when the pressure is really on?

You HAVE TO BE chomping at the bit to take a job like this surely? Big Mac... a truly great Villa servant, has been in the game long enough to know whether he fancies a shot at a big job or not and it seems from his quotes to date, that he really doesn't?

Neil Moxley at The Daily Mail has a good article. He quotes Kev: 'I have spoken with Mr Lerner and we decided, if we wait until after the Everton game, we have a two-week break. If I decide this job is for me, I`ll hopefully get an interview, speak to the owner and pass on my thoughts about how to take the club forwards. If it`s not for me, then all the other people being considered will get their interviews.'

Neil says... MacDonald`s lack of ego is endearing. It is one of the reasons players have been keen for him to step into the void. However, he remains undecided whether life as a Barclays Premier League manager is for him.

Is the lack of an ego not a major problem? Surely to be a manager you have to have a big and strong ego to think you are doing the right thing?

Big Mac adds: 'You know, I don`t get a buzz if fans chant my name. If I could pick a team and stand there like the invisible man, I`d be happy with that.'

The article also says that if he took the job he might get a more experienced person in to work alongside him. Ha, I mentioned this earlier in the week... maybe I'm not quite the idiot I thought I was... as Neil says Two-time former boss Graham Taylor would be the perfect fit.

More in The Telegraph albeit similar quotes.

The Mirror say that Blues boss Alex McLeish is not considering making the move from Blue to Claret and Blue.

Meanwhile potential Villa manager target...?.... Sven Goran Eriksson is also being linked the Ukraine job. Then again, what job isn't he linked with? This from the The Daily Mail

Tell you what, Glen Hoddle might not be a bad shout?!

Who would take the old golden ticket of Brian Little with John Gregory back as his coach back!??!

I reckon Kmac should stick with what he is doing to be honest, might not have it cut out to be a manager. I think it is quite a mess that we still havn't sorted out the manager, 5-6 days till transfer window ends with no manager and a team with needs more quality great.

Fear I agree with you - the shock is all mine. The comments from Big Mac seem to indicate that he is NOT the one to be a manager in the proper sense of the word and I don't see how he can be a manager/ coach and have someone do the media stuff etc. Why would the media want to speak to a second man? Sure ly they wouldn't. Seems to me that Big Mac is really saying that he is a great number 2. Nothing wrong with that, but we need a new number 1 and despite my comments yestterday about the faults of The Big Ego, we do need someone big enough to do the job, but with a small enough ego to recognise that the club is at the centre of things and not the manager.

If the article is accurate then no interviews until the international break. Bit surprised as I'd have thought the best plan would be interview now, including KMac, see how KMac does in next two games and then appoint new manager at start of international break to allow time to work with players etc.

I can't but help the feeling that this is all starting to become a little bit of a disaster, we seem to be no further on in knowing what to do or where the next manager is coming from. I was open to KM taking over but the more negativity about the position I hear from him the more I'm dubious of him being appointed. We're a top 6 club for crying out loud, this should be a position that's being battled for, not us scratching around trying to find someone who fancies it. I've been patient, looked at it constructively and agreed with the need not to panic, but now I want it resolved, I want us back on track with strong leadership, this is fast becoming a joke!
