Big Mistakes By Kevin MacDonald

Big Mistakes By Kevin MacDonald

Big Mistakes By Kevin MacDonald

The ups and downs of football... astvil123 on a totally different end of match feeling to last weekends great game v West Ham:

Kevin MacDonald promised to change the formation, tactics, players and game plan for each game we played. Today, he did exactly the opposite.

Stewart Downing and Marc Albrighton have started at home to West Ham and played well. They both started out in Vienna on Thursday and looked tired towards the end. Why start them again at Newcastle?

They will just get burnt out straight away! Players should be able to play 3 games in just over a week don't get me wrong; but having our wingers play 3 games in 8 days is a bit much, especially someone as in-experienced as Marc Albrighton.

We played the same formation as we did against West Ham and Vienna. No change what so ever!

Ciaran Clarke is a great prospect, no doubt! But, having him mark Andy Carrol? Why?

Kev said that Stephen Ireland wasn't fit (which we all saw today) so why the hell did he play the full 90? Why did he even start?

We have Nigel Reo-Coker for a reason! 'Everyone will be given a chance' -

Why hasn't Nathan Delfouneso been given his chance? I think he's earnt a start in the Premier League by now!

We were tired, poor, had no game plan, played the wrong formation and the team spirit well and truly died today!

I'll hold my hands up and say that I wanted Kev to get the job, but I was wrong. Not just because we played one bad game, but because every decision Kev had to make, he got wrong. 3-0 down, and we bring off Albrighton and put Heskey on the right wing.

Why?

If we had of played: Friedel, Young, Davies, Dunne, Warnock, Delfouneso, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Ireland, Young, Carew, Then aim to take off Ireland for Downing after 60 mins. Then bring on Albrighton towards the end.

That is a team that would have stopped Newcastle in midfield and stopped their deliveries into Carrol.

Kevin MacDonald messed up, but fair enough, he's not a manager. Until a new manager comes in and someone who has a good knowledge of the game and knows how to change the players, formations and tactics for each game properly then we will keep struggling.

Such a shame, but Kevin MacDonald is not the man to take over at Villa full time.

I thank kevin for stepping in but the reserve team coach is not suitable to run the aston villa football first team on a permanent basis.

krfeskivilla I said the same thing also that Albrighton should be rested after 2 appearances in 5 days. McD odds down to 4-1 Bradley new favourite at 6/4. How one games changes lives - maybe?

dunno, he has hit the crossbar twice so far this season (if you include Valencia) so think he is close with some?

It was a bit obvious that Ireland is not a Milner replacement, but KM did treat him as just that. Totally agree that Ireland should have been playing off Carew, then after 20 minutes Carew should have been subbed for Delboy, because he was awful.

Well said stennyvilla, I agree and I would still give him the job until the end of the season. Yes maybe he made some mistakes today but its refreshing to see those admitted. As has been said, yes we lost big style in the end but we did not have the rub of the green today. It could have been so different had Carew scored. Its also easy to say we would play different players now but I must admit I would have started with that same team. I do feel Ireland should have been the player playing off the forward though and we should have been looking to get the ball to feet just as we did against Westham. I think where we got it wrong was that we went back to playing long ball and taking our time on the ball to often. I also think its incorrect to say Macdonald is a coach and not a manager! What he does with the reserves is manage them! they lost games too but he picked them back up and got them back on a winning streak again. You can't just a manager on one game so I'm not getting down about this now. I think most should pass judgment after the Everton game but unless we were going to bring in a world class manager proven at every level then its still Macdonald until the end of the season for me. We have good enough players to come back and still be in the top six mix this season. After all we are only three points from top ;-)

Not making any changes a half time left me gobsmacked.

I was saying that playing Clark against Carroll would be a big mistake on here for days.. and also not to get carried away by KMacs first game (which wasn't allowed at the time) ... just thought I'd mention that... We need a proven manager (and that isn't Bob Bradley either btw)

I think lessons learned today are 1) Clark is a good prospect but not yet ready. 2) We NEED more bite in the midfield - NRC or dare i even say it maybe even sidders. 3) Carew only ever turns up for home games 4) K Mac does at least admit it when he gets things wrong =) Give him a dozen games at least i say

I can't believe people are moaning about the starting 11, pretty much the same 11 that stuffed West Ham and had Villa fans salivating at the mouth. At half time it should have changed though. I don't think any player can come out of that game with their head held high. But let's see how we respond this Thursday, as far as I'm concerned this will make or break whether Big Kev should get the job.
