Kevin MacDonald Still Unsure If He Wants Villa Job

Kevin MacDonald Still Unsure If He Wants Villa Job

Aston Villa's caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald has admitted in a press conference, video available on BBC Sport that he isn't sure if the managers job is what he wants or what he likes.

He also says he hasn't had 'that' feeling yet that this job is for him.

'I'm not sure if it is what I like, who knows. I'm not sure yet. I've not had that feeling that it is what I want'.

He also says he's not had the time to sit down and assess if he likes it and if it is what he wants. He says it up to other people to decide whether he is good at it or not but obviously up to him whether he wants to take the role.

It is good to see that he isn't just going to 'jump' at the job but surely by now you would want a potential manager to know for sure this is the job I want and I'll grab it with both hands if offered?

If not, what happens when the pressure really builds?

He also knows that as a manager in the Premiership your life is no longer your own and you are under constant pressure and in the public eye. 'Worrying every minute of every day' .. 'do I want it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?'

Top managers like Sir Alex Chewalot and Martin Jol can cope but he isn't sure if he can cope with the constant decisions.

Big Mac talks about coping with the stress 24 hours a day and isn't sure if he wants that in his life.

He does however say he has been enjoying working with the players and finds working with them day by day 'exciting'. He likes the build up to pitting Villa players v other clubs plus 'it is on the training ground that I very much enjoy'.

Only Big Mac knows what he wants, having heard this thorough and honest interview, I have massive doubts that he should take the role. You have to be partly mad to be a manager and I would think he should know now by pure instinct alone if it is for him or not.

What say you?

I too suspect that he doesn't want the job, although it is perfectly possible that he is genuinely unsure about whether it would be right for him or not - and there will be a million potential factors that he could be considering at the moment. Lerner continuing the hunt for a new manager and not rushing into anything has to be in the best interests of Villa, and I think K-Mac is enabling him to do this. Whether K-Mac turns out to be the man for the job we'll just have to wait and see.
