Rapid Apologise For Idiotic Scum

Rapid Vienna have issued a fullsome apology for the treatment our players, and Andreas Weimann in particular, received during the Europa League qualifier.

A statement published on the Austrian clubs Official Website said all associated with the club were 'very disappointed' in the small number of idiots within the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium last Thursday.

They describe the behaviour overall as 'publicly damaging' and 'terrible' and go further when reserving special apology for a man close to their hearts...Andreas Weimann.

'This disgusting, unfair and unacceptable behaviour by a small number of Rapid fans was not just noted in Austria, but also in England.

'In the case of Andreas Weimann these actions are all the more severe, because this player, who is a product of the Rapid Academy, had always stood by the club. He is a Rapid fan and also let it be known that he stood by the club in the run up to the game.

'Weimann's family are all real true Rapid fans, who are members of the club and have season tickets.'

The statement ends by saying:

'SK Rapid would like to officially offer this statement as a means of apology to Andreas Weimann, his family and to the club Aston Villa.'

Good, because what they did was ridiculous.

What happened, though?

col8, will there then be an apology to Rapid on the Villa website?

@Dubaispur they were just hurling bottles at our goalkeeper and Weinman was being stretchered off they throwing bottle of water at him also. Pretty low thing to do to someone who grew up a rapid fan.

That's jolly nice of them. Well said Rapid Vienna. Hopefully it steeled our lads for the reception I fully expect us to receive tomorrow up at St James Park. I'm looking forward very much to the game, and the visit to St James Park, one of my favourite football stadiums, , but I'm well prepared for the hostile reaction I expect to be thrown our way. Anyway, all adds to the fun, Back to Rapid, and once again may I say 'Well done for speaking out against the loonies'.

Fair enough, I cant class a bunch of thugs with the whole country, But the only way to release your anger is with words, so i just said it in anger. But i still stick my the fact the thugs in the stands are discusting people and sorry cant really justify the fact 2 of our players were treated like animals.

Agree Mike, There is no need for it really. I thought there fans were great at villa park last year as they made the place alive and a few hundred of them outsang a massive villa crowd! I never expected them to act the way they did and especially to Weimann yes, He use to be loved by there fans apparently and he is a young lad, He totally didnt deserve what happend especially being on a stretcher!! And with his family as season ticket holders i agree i bet his dad wouldnt have been too happy about that. Not good to see in football, Glad i havn't witnessed those scenes at villa park, or anywhere in england on that note.
