Clark Aiming For Two On The Trot

Ciaran Clark is determined to keep his place in the first 11 for tomorrow's first leg clash against Rapid Vienna after impressing against West Ham.

Speaking on the Official Site Clark admits that with Curtis Davies and Carlos Cuellar returning to fitness it will be a tough battle to keep his spot, but he's certainly not afraid of that battle.

'It will be hard, no one has a right to their place.'

Clark adds that he intends to knuckle down in training and convince Kevin MacDonald that he deserves to stay in the squad for an extended run.

As for the game itself, he knows Vienna will be tough having watched the match from the bench last season, but he doesn't think the players will be too intimidated by the atmosphere the crowd creates.

'They will make it very hard for us but if we play like we did against West Ham, I think we have got a good chance. All the boys have played well in pre season, fitness levels are up now and we've won the first game. We are just looking to push on now.'

Another solid performance against Vienna, and hopefully a decent win margin would set the tie up nicely for the return leg at Villa Park and do spirits the world of good.

For my money Clark is definitely worth getting a good run of games now, he's hardly put a foot wrong when given the chance and of course he'll only develop more by playing and if he can be half as good as most fans rate his potential, we'll have a very juicy centre half on our books over the next few years.
